OU-West Virginia Stats/Highlights/Quotes/Notes/Photos

Bob sure has aged over the years. I remember him being so young in 1991 when he brought Cincy into the LNC for the NIT tournament. OU trailed by 8 with 1:30 left and won in OT.

Here is what Huggins looked like in those days. This is actually from the 92 final 4 team at Cincy so almost 25 years ago.

Huggy and Cincy came into Norman in 00 as well. that team had Kenyon Martin and beat a pretty good Kelvin team without much trouble. final score 72-57.....didn't feel that close, being there. at one point in the first half.....OU scores to cut the lead to 5 or 6 and the crowd is really into it. Huggy calls TO. Cincy scored the next 8 points and that was pretty much it.

their half court pressure gave us so much trouble i remember we were making entry passes from the time line. we couldn't even run our sets. Cincy was a darned good basketball team that year.

i think that was the Cincy team that was #1 and undefeated up to the point K. Martin broke his leg in the Big East tournament.

edit: Cincy was actually 29-4 that year (only two losses in the reg season). and still in C-USA....which was still a pretty good conf with Xavier, Marquette, Memphis and Louisville. weirdly, they beat St Louis 84-41 on March 5 and then lost to St Louis 68-58 on March 9. must have been when Martin broke his leg.

2000 Cincinnati Bearcats. An absolutely monster team. Had a guard named DerMarr Johnson who was about 6'9''. Satterfield was good. Steve Logan was a great college player. That was one of the best teams I've ever seen come through Lloyd Noble. Crowd was beyond hyped.....but they had nothing to cheer about.

Shame about Kenyon. They were the best team in the country that year.

Beginning of winter break of '99. Remember that one well. I got to take a lovely trip to Shreveport to break in Y2K about a week later.
