OU would not separate from OSU

Had some very interesting email exchanges with Berry regarding this very issue.

good read.

This was horrible though
The veterinary teaching hospital in Stillwater is named for Boren; it was his pet project when he was Oklahoma's governor in the 1970s.

Though OU didn't ultimately go, leave it to Ok. State to hold OU back...

as much as I dislike OSUx I hafta agree with this. We need to be in the same conference.

I'll take a shot at an answer.

We aren't a 'rich' state like Texas, nor do we have a large population. We have only 2 full fledged state universities. We need for them to cooperate as is described in the article. We need for our two universities to be the best they can be in every aspect - academic and otherwise. If we weren't in the same conference, OSU would be in a lesser conference. Athletically, they could become like Tulsa University. Even though the pure academics would never admit it, that's not in the best interests of the state of Oklahoma.

yeah, my opinion kinda like Ms said. I think the state really needs for both programs to be in major conferences and to do that best OU and OSU should be tethered. When OSU is strong in things we can benefit and vice versa.

I did not realize Boren had a fiduciary responsibility to OSU. Is that written in the state charter? Since Boone gave Texas 100,000,000 dollars, the least he can do is show his appreciation and write a 100,000,000 check to OU. It's about time Boren and JC start thinking about their own fans. The next time Joe wants to raise ticket prices, he should send an invoice to Holder and let his fans pick up the tab for once. If you look at what is currently happening at aTm, people are finally getting sick and tired of being told to shut up and write the check.

I wouldn't use Texas A&M or their fanbase as an example that anyone should emulate.

Boren has no fiduciary responsibility to OSU but he and Hargis both have a responsibility to the State of Oklahoma. If it became impossible for both schools to be in the same conference and the only choice we had was to split I'm sure we would. Thankfully, that wasn't the situation.

If Boren and Hargis both have a responsibility to the State of Oklahoma, they need to join forces and get Tulsa into the Big 12 conference. As far as the aTm fans and donors are concerned, I'm glad they are pushing back and not acting like a bunch of mindless sheep. I hope the decision aTm made will end up costing them 20 million dollars in donations.

i'll take a long shower after i say this but Tramel is a little quick with the "aw shucks aren't we a great state and Texas infighting" angle....yes, Kelvin wore the orange warmups after the plane crash but after the ATM bonfire UT's band played the Aggie Hymn during halftime of the ATM-UT game....so, if the orange unis prove OK is a united state in a way Texas isn't (because the UT and ATM infighting flushed the Pac 16)....then he should at least not disallow/ignore that same criteria of proof for honoring the other institutions' fallen athletes/students....was also displayed by the "strife ridden" Texans.

the examples are not parallel. wearing orange uniforms does not have any qualitative similarity with fighting about being in a new conference. they are different examples in kind, see? and, if ATM-UT have an analogous example (UT's band after the Bonfire tragedy)....then it negates the Orange Unis as a proof. so, it's a fallacious comparison he uses....and give UT and ATM the SAME credit for the Bonfire incident he does the orange warmups.

anyhoo, i like that the two schools are together....but the SEC would have been interesting and as far as i was hearing in Denver that "OU was going to be left out", i guess having offers from the Pac and SEC while having the XII option open sort of undermines that sentiment.

I used to agree, but not selling individual football tickets to OU fans [many of whom are tax paying Oklahomans] sort of of soured me on that. It is a petty position they took...and clearly not in the interest of the State and its citizens.

Don't you really mean: "I hope the decision OU made will end up costing us 20 million dollars, because I want the school to fail in this conference, since they made a decision I disagree with."

Didn't sell individual tickets to OSU fans either for the OSU-OU game.
