Penzo may be a one-hit wonder. But, we needed someone to light a fire.

I'm not sure that the answer is Penzo......she played a good game but....

When one player shoots 8-12 from the three point line, it certainly improves the team's ability to win...

To me, Penzo's game is completely different from all the other guards that SC has recruited. Penzo is more at ease in a half court game....and if someone is hittting threes at a pace like Gabbi did, a half court game has a chance. But if the outside shots aren't falling, then you need someone who can drive and finish or dish...Shaina.

One stat that I did like from Penzo's game the other night.....one turnover in 38 minutes.:woot

One stat that I didn't like.....Odigmbe....one minute of playing time.

I noticed that Sherri didn’t play Ej, it’s strange because she might not be a strong rebounder, she is a Good finisher at the rim, has decent foot Work, and she wa able to protect the rim vs SDSU... it’s clear she just needs minutes, it seems like she’s going to be our starting center next year so it would good for her to give Vivi a rest here and there. Maybe she will have a Abi type senior year, or else our starting line up will be all freshman and sophomores next season...

Penzo did make a couple of those long passes on a break. Then, she also led a break on which she dropped it to Shaina as they got to the rim.

I will never complain about more minutes for ViVi. I doubt that EJ is our center of the future. But Maybe so.

I just watched the last 6 minutes of the game again. With the all the hoopla over Penzo I think many missed the contribution of Ana during the time we came from behind. She played D, put up points and got some very tough rebounds. Most important she was playing like she was in control of the game.

As for Penzo it will be interesting how the future will treat her. She clearly was asserting herself out there and as usual did a good job passing. I think if I was an opposing coach I would use the Gottlieb defense (not guard her) except to cut off layups. I would also almost face guard Gabbi and double team ViVi. On the other side of the ball I would try to isolate her and either shoot over her or blow by her to the basket. She is not quick enough to stop even an average driver. Also she is by far the best defender we have at helping from the weakside. I'm afraid that no one would be there to bail her out when she got beat off the dribble.

Watching Shey play, she’s not really a point guard, more of an undersized combo guard, I agree that she and Ana get a lot of minutes since they along with Madi Williams and Tatum will be our core going forward for the next few years...

Ana not fouling out was a big improvement. I would like to see her going towards the rim and midrange more...

I absolutely agree. Ana is shooting 56.9% ITA (29/51) which is outstanding for a perimeter player. I also think that is Ana was more selective in her 3 point shots and shot in rhythm more so than just firing away she could elevate her accuracy BTA from the 15.2% BTA she is presently shooting to 30.0% by seasons end.

If she were to take about 3.5 selective shots BTA instead of the 5.1 haphazard shots BTA she presently takes she could up her shooting percentage to over 30%by averaging about 38% from 3 for the balance of the year. I think that is doable. If she was successful I can see Ana averaging 14+ points for the balance of he season. She also needs to shoot better than 62.1% from the line.
