I don't want folks to think that I'm shirking my responsibilities. They did have a one hour practice each of the last two days.
There hasn't been much to talk about. They have been running the same drills every day. Then they go lift. Both practices were topped off with a about 10 minutes of getting after it half court 5 on 5.
I may have spoken too soon on Alade. The kid is a scrapper and made a couple of nice plays over the last two days. I'm not predicting big things. Just saying.
Walker is continuing to do nice work. He has made a couple of weak passes that he won't be able to get away with at this level. But, when he sees a gap, he bows his neck and takes it to the rack. He has good toughness and likes to play defense.
Lattin is doing really well on defense and has very quick hands. He is already the best ball handler of the bigs and has displayed the best shooting range of the bigs in the practice gym. When banging inside he is now and will continue for awhile contend with a strength issue.
Thomas is still feeling his way around with his new team. He is yet to start asserting himself with regularity. To this point he hasn't shown much shooting accuracy past 12/14 feet. Spangler is getting more makes at that range.
Buddy had a really good day today. Buford was drawing the defensive assignment. He kept getting that I didn't know he could do that look on his face. Buford is a good one. But, he will need some more settling in time. He will be ready to contribute by the fall. He is still doing all of his position drills with the guards.
Bennett seems to be coming around. He is more confident and aggressive and is being rewarded with a good result from time to time. Jumuni's rebounding is about on par with the other bigs. But, the rest of his game will require some seasoning.
Cousins was knocking the bottom out of it today. There is no one our team that can keep him from getting his shot.
It is getting harder for the players to stand out. For the first time this season it is good on good much of the time.
