Practice 7/15/2013

That's true. I keep forgetting about those two. I'm not expecting them to be great. But the addition of two able bodies with some experience, even at the juco level, will make a difference as well as improve our post depth and the competition necessary to earn playing time.

I'm expecting Avila to be pretty good, especially defensively. He is supposed to run the court fairly well for a big man, and he will bring another physical presence. I think he will be the one to backup Spangler and Bennett.

So you think Cam starts on the wing, or backs up the wing?

Good question. I'm just guessing. It might depend on match-ups on whether they play big or not. If they play small ball, Cam might play over Avila and Bennett in the post. If they play big, Cam could play the wing.

It also depends on how much Cam improves his game over the summer (e.g. ball handling). I thought him playing the post last year was a gimmick because they had no post depth.

I was influenced by this quote on another board regarding someone who has seen Avila play and commented in a discussion about his height:

"I live here in Seward County and have seen him (Avila) play about 15 times. I stood right by him talking to Coach Zollinger and Sautter. I'm 6'1 he is closer to 6'10. He is listed on the Saints roster at 6'10. He can play though. He's got some nasty in him".

I like seeing someone in the post that plays with an attitude. It's like marking his territory.

I like the thought of him playing in the rotation ahead of Tyler Neal and Cole.

I'll predict Cam to get heavy minutes as the "4", like Kim English for Mizzou in 2012.

That is what I think also, especially with Avila and Hamilton coming in late, and Woodard/Booker both looking like they can contribute.

And personally I just think that is the best fit for Cam on offense, but that's a different conversation.
