  • Ive got Tech above A&M.

Why is OSU way too low they have 0 scoring coming back.

Because they picked up two double-digit scorers in JP Olukemi and Darrell Williams this year... And I think Keiton Page, Matt Pilgrim, Marsall Moses, and Ray Penn will be good in their new roles this year. And Markel Brown is going to be a good scorer.

I will be absolutely shocked if OSU finishes 8th.

No one is jumping on the OU wagon yet...

Honestly, why should they?

The only reason any of us are optimistic is because we are Sooner fans...every team has a shot to be good as long as no games are played...

i hope they come out like gang busters and surprise everyone, but i have a feeling all the hype that has been going on here will be good for nothing else but a big let down...

If nothing else, it sounds like we will have good character guys that will play hard...and other than wins, that is the second most important thing this team needs for the fan base to not totally freak out...

11/18/2010 is probably when reality will smack us in the face.

I just love the positive energy you are bringing right now. It's really great stuff.

Good quality work here... I think we will surprise people, maybe Im wrong, maybe not... Playing hard doesnt keep anyones job. We need wins.

I didnt say anything about keeping anyones job...just about perception from the fan base...because reguardless the record, true OU fans (like myself) will continue to go to the games and support their team...just makes it easier when guys are out there battling, unlike last year...

Look, those who know me on this board know i am very optimistic but all the sudden hype around this team that was basically put together in a few weeks last spring doesnt make me think they are going to come out balling...

I think they have some talent, but we are counting too much on true freshmen and juco transfers...juco's best years usually come when they are seniors (when asked to be leaders)...and true freshmen are a crapshoot when asked to come in and take the lead...I love the story lines and the players upside, and i dont think this team is second worst in the Big XII but an NIT bid most likely will be the upside for this team...

When was the last time you saw a pre-season poll....

and OU was predicted to finish 11th?

OU was predicted 9th in Capel's first year, and now 11th in Capel's fifth year.

Here is how the picks have gone since 2000 under Sampson:
2000 - 4th
2001- 4th
2002- 2nd
2003- 4th
2004- 4th
2005- 2nd

I mean, it's just a pre-season poll but it is a reflection of OU's current reputation with the league. The media will probably have OU 11th or 12th this year too. They are basically saying that OU is going to be the doormat of the league with Iowa State, and that has never happened in my OU basketball watching days (early to mid 90's).

Re: When was the last time you saw a pre-season poll....

yea its frustrating...do you have capel's year by year pre-season rankings?

Is this news to you? I have known that we weren't going to be looked at very favorably for months now.

The fact that Capel was able to land the guys that he did after all the crap that this program went through last year is pretty remarkable to me. I bet this group plays really hard this year and will be back in the dance in 2011.

Re: When was the last time you saw a pre-season poll....

If we finish 11th then this is probably Capel's last year.

I don't think we will finish 11th, but if we do, then I doubt it.

I think there are other things that have to occur for this to be Capel's last year:

- Loses control of the team again
- Off the court issues
- No defense/hustle
- Getting blown out by 30 plus to teams like Baylor

In other words, I think it has more to do than with the overall record and don't see this team doing the things that I listed above after to talking to some folks who know more than I about the current program.

So when do wins and losses come into play?
Most coaches in america could put together a team that mesh's well on and off the court.....but that doesnt result in wins all the time, you still need alot of talent exp in the big 12

The 11th place team either goes 3-13 or 4-12. If OU has another season like that it will show 3 out of 5 years that OU has been horrendous without Blake Griffin.

If that were to happen, it will be Capel's last season at OU.

I don't see OU finishing higher than 10th, so finishing 11th is certainly a possibility.

Do you have your conference rankings yet, bigtime?

2011.

As for the talent comment, wouldn't you agree he has done that with guys like Cam, Osby, TJ, and Newell. And he even supplemented the talent with some great glue guys like Thompson and Carl Blair.

It won't be lack of talent holding this team back this year imo. It will be lack of experience (and maybe lack of one more big body that can rebound and body up down low).

Yea, I do agree Cam, Osby, TJ, & Newell are talented....I would like to say Goff is talented as well but I havent seen him play....

It would just be tough to finish 11th and capel not be on the hot seat....It is just unacceptable....our program would look terrible from the outside in....it would have to effect recruiting.
