It was announced earlier this week that the Future Sooner PG will be staying for his Senior year in Oregon and not going to one of the "basketball factories" like oak hill as long as his high school coach stays put.

Do you think this is good news/bad news/or no news?

I personally like it because it seemingly reduces the chance of him getting cherry picked and lessens the chance of an academic SNAFU.

Sure wish he could just graduate early and come to Norman though...

it is a good thing .. he doesn't feel the need for more exposure and wants to win 4 state titles in a row ..

I hate high-school athletes jumping around from school to school, so I'm very pleased to hear this news. He seems like a typical (albeit very talented), down-to-earth kid who's enjoying his high school years, so good for him for sticking with it.

I think it goes without saying... I agree it's good he stays.

Anyone know how tall Payton is? He is listed at 6'2" but his dad was taller than that. I am hoping he grows another inch or two in his final two years of high school and I would love it if he grew more than that. I think he will be fine at 6'2" but you really can't be too tall for basketball.

There are positive and negative scenarios for each side of the argument. Staying in Oregon is the safest for OU.

One more yr of HS. He's a Jr. this year.

It would be great for us if he graduated early. I don't know his height but Terry was 6'5' but I would guess his mom, a gymnast at OU, isn't very tall.

He is a great player and will help us whenever he gets to Norman.

ESPN lists him at 6'2" but I see him most often listed at 6'0". His dad was listed at 6'5" when he played football at OU but his mother was on the OU gymnastic team so I'm guessing she is in the 5'1" - 5'4" range like most gymnasts. I wouldn't expect Payton to be nearly as tall as his dad.

If he never gets taller than, say, Woodard, I'm fine with that.

I have mixed emotions on Pritchard graduating early even if it were an option. No doubt he would get some playing time but Woodard has 2 years left at PG. I hate to see a kid graduate early and miss out on the fun of his senior year. Especially if he only gets backup minutes. I don't want him to have any regrets...... although I bet he would get 10-15 minutes per game next year. Maybe more.

The write up was likely done to start his junior season. That means two years left from the measurement or at least that was thought process. I did know he was a junior.

I knew Terry Pritchard as a freshman and i would say he was every bit of 6'5".

This kid is going to be a really good athlete. Very few people have two parents that were D-1 athletes. I wonder if his mom had him in gymnastics as a youngster. If so, he probably developed some pretty good balance and body control.

I think Payton Pritchard was always involved in basketball. His aunt, Lisa Griffith (mother Melissa's younger sister), was a 4 year PG starter on the U of Arizona women's basketball team and still holds some school records. Pritchard's younger sister Lexie was a 5'9" freshman this year on the girl's HS team which was coached by Lisa. Pritchard's mother, Melissa Griffith at OU, won several conference championships as an OU gymnast….. all per my Google searches. Counting dad Terry's OU football career, Payton has a very athletic pedigree.

Terry posted this 8-9 years ago and it indicates that Payton has probably always had formal athletic development. I also read that Payton has a 3.8 GPA so he is no doubt a very smart player, too.

Terry Pritchard

"After High School I attended the University of Oklahoma on a Football Scholarship. I moved to Oregon about 8 years ago after meeting my wife Melissa who attended the University of Oklahoma on a Gymnastics scholarship. She is from Oregon and we have made our home here. I have three children Taylor 14, Payton 7 and Alexis 5. They are the three main focuses in our lives and we enjoy coaching and watching them grow up.

Career wise, I have worked in Sales for several years and then in the last year I started a Sports Fundamentals Training Company for youth. The company is called FAST Sports Training and it is growing at a tremendous rate. We are looking into building a sports complex here in Oregon City. This summer we have 2 Baseball Camps and 3 Basketball Camps. Needless to say we will be really busy. I can honestly say this is what I was meant to do from the beginning. I enjoy working with Kids and Sports have always my first Love. We follow the Sooners here in Oregon in fact we are the only ones for miles around that hangs an OU Flag in the front of our house. We plan to go an OU game this year and then of course the game next year against Oregon."

In the recent history of Oregon HS basketball I can only think of one AA player that left the state to play for one of those programs. Kevin Love, the Singlers, Terrence Jones all stayed with their local high school teams until graduation. The one that left was Terrence Ross and he came back his senior year. Pritchard has his future planned for the next 5 years.

Gotcha! Didn't want folks confused!
