Projected Exhib. Game Lineup

What do you guys think of the "projected starting lineup" for us in the exhibition game tomorrow (curtesy of Hale); Thompson, Fitz, Bird, Blair and Cade.

Haven't seen the new guys to really comment myself -- I'll wait until after I have seen everyone play to decide who I want to get minutes. But, this would be our most experianced lineup. Cade is in his 4th year, thompson and blair are in their 3d year from high school (blair did prep after HS), pledger and Fitz are in their second year. I sort of like the idea of not having to rely on freshmen, but they may be our most talented. I guess we will see tomorrow.

Bet we see a lot of mixing and matching with the kids. Looking forward to seeing what the new guys look like.

fitz went to prep school as well

Barring injury, Cade is going to be the starter all season. I know that offensive production is the "sexy" stat, but if this team is going to have any chance to be successful, it needs to play with intensity and be smart on the defensive end. We don't have a guy on our roster who is more proven in that capacity than Cade. Bottom line, if he can be a 12 and 5 guy and a leader on the court in helping guys get in the right spots offensively and defensively then he is doing his job, in fact he would be excelling at it.

The following players were 12 and 5 guards at OU:

Terrell Everett
Nolan Johnson
Tony Crocker
Mike Neal
Ebi Ere

I just dont know that Cade is that caliber of player on a post-season team...

I think Pledger can be though.

I agree 100 percent if thats what happens...my fear with cade is that he is not a great scorer/shooter....I think with all the pressure being the only senior he may try to shoot to much or score to much and thats not what type of player he is.....
If he does infact focus more on getting the ball in the right hands and rebounding then he will be great this year.....I am just really hoping he doesnt try to take over games offensively on a regular basis

Cade has gotten better every year. Cade, obviously, has to improve his FG%. If he does, he will easily score 12-15 ppg.

Cade had 20 and 10 against Texas and he's never even seen Blair play.

I don't know why you guys even take the bait. We all know at this point that all ABD does is crap on every thread on this board.

I guess if it weren't for guys like you though, this board would die. If everybody just stopped responding, there would be no posts on this board except info about OSU, Missouri, Colorado and Nebraska, or trashing the current OU team and coach.

Geez, this again? Its guys like you that create an environment of making people think they can't be critical or say what they really think in fear of being outcasted, banned, or unwelcome unless they speak only in a positive fashion about the program, players, and coaches.

You basically want this board to be Orangepower.com. Fortunately (for everyone), people are allowed to say whatever they want within reason over here AND are allowed to discuss OU opponents and other programs.. I don't know why you dont like discussing other teams and comparing them to OU, but a lot of people enjoy it so you should just save your energy and quit complaining about it constantly.

its fine but you dont know anything about blair or the new guys so quit acting like you do because they dont have rivals' stars next to there name or ppg underneath from the jayhawk conference..

how did your shane-trunks guy from CU do? that you proclaimed was so good because he had good numbers from the australia leauge.. forgive me if i dont trust your analysis for talent

Starting Blair/Davis together (if it sticks throughout the season) will probably be the least talented 1/2 combo OU has had since I started watching in 1995.

Unless of course Blair turns out to be good and Davis proves he is a starter caliber player in the Big 12.

How is Cade Davis not a proven Big XII starter. He averaged 9.9 a game, with 3.9 boards. In Big XII play it was 11.5 and 4.7 He blocked shots and was one of the league leaders in steals (9th in the conference).

I think you can throw Newel and TJ Taylor in that group. All of those guys are, arguably, more talented and more athletic than Cade. That doesn't mean Cade won't play a big role this year as a leader and defender.

Why is Cade Davis not athletic? He is pretty fast (not blazzing speed but the kid is not slow), reasonably quick, has pretty good hands, he is strong, he is in fabulous shape and he has a very good vertical. What skill is he lacking?

I wish I were as unathletic as Cade Davis.

He was 11.5 and 4.7 guy in Big XII last year. Why can't he be one half point and 1/3 of a board better this year? You don't think an enitre year of work will make him better? You don't think a team that is less selfish will make him better?

I agree with everything you say here, and am baffled how 11.5 and 4.7 in conference for a wing is terrible, and even more baffled as to how the other things that he does and has done are so completely ignored. He is a solid defender (a huge need for this team I think) and he is not a selfish player (another huge need for this team I think). Are there things that he can work on or be better at? Absolutely, but I'm guessing that he has done that the entire off-season. Is he going to be a "superstar"? No. But I'm not sure that is the role that he (or anyone else on the team) is being expected to play. I just think some on here get enamored with "stats" to much...particularly when those stats come from high school or juco.

Based on what, not a knock against Pledger because he was a true freshman, but Cade was a better overall player last season.

Well, all those guys averaged 12 and 5 (ish) for NCAA Tournament teams... Cade did it on a 13 win team. There is a BIG difference there.
