Millwood High School will hold it's annual basketball tournament this week starting Thurday, the 9th. For those who haven't had a chance to see Nino Jackson of Ardmore, he will be playing in this tournament. He's had a great start to the year. Also, another player we featured on OUhoops.com, Shirmane Thomas, a 2013 sg prospect from Dallas Skyline will also be on display.

A couple of other mid major prospects who may have a chance to catch the eye of high major coaches are 6'4 sg Brandon Lucas of Southmoore, 6'6 Zach Leday 2012 SF out of Dallas Skyline, 2013 6'2 combo guard Nico Medadows of Capital Hill and 2011 Center 6'8 Rex Farmer of OKC Storm Home School. Attached is a schedule of the Tournament.

Boys
Capitol Hill vs. God's Academy, 10 a.m.
Millwood vs. Lighthouse Christian, 1 p.m.
OKC Storm vs. Dallas Skyline, 4 p.m.
Ardmore vs. Star Spencer, 7 p.m.

Why is Douglass not playing in this tourney? and does anybody have a copy of their schedule?

I checked and they will be participating in the Phil Ingersoll Classic at Southern Nazerene University.

Phil Ingersoll Classic? Now, that is classic. I may be at the tourney on Sat. if Capitol Hill advances. THey played US Grant last night in a laugher. I think Nico had 20+ easily, they are pretty undersized this year though, so they will struggle against teams with size.

It looks like Nico, the Woodard kid at Edmond, and the Neal kid at MWC are going to be giving Clark and Parker a run at the top player in the class.

Update on tourney...wife just informed me that Capitol Hill won by 10 over God's Academy.

Thanks for the update, was about to call my wife. I guess I'll be going to that game tonight and check out Jackson.

Well, Capitol Hill lost to Ardmore last night. Both teams were really sloppy in the 1st quarter. Nino has a real fluid looking jumper and easy range to three and had 3 or so huge dunks. He never ran the point for them though. He reminds me of Austin Johnson in body type and skill set, before AJ suffered all his injuries. So, if you want to watch some possible OU recruits tonight, its Ardmore vs. Dallas Skyline at 8:15, I think. Nico Meadows for CHHS had a really good game and has a really smooth looking jumper. He's definitely one to keep an eye on because if he grows another 2-3 inches he would be an amazing 2, also he's an A/B student.

Thanks for the report on Nino Czech!

I'm about to get ready to head out that way tonight, hope to get some good film on Nino and Shirmane Thomas (2013 Skyline).

Ardmore won by a lot, Nino looks really raw but potential wise has a ton. Love his motor and athletic ability. Capel, Betts and Goodman were all in attendance. Also sharp shooter 2013 guard Stevie Clark was in attendance as a fan.

I was at that game and to me it was very apparent that Nino is not a pg. He's really a transition type player and baseline driver from an offensive standpoint. You can see his talent and why teams want him, but at the same time you can see the things he needs to do better, all of which are coachable.

If I were to give a scouting report on Nino, I would say he needs to learn how to use a screen better in the halfcourt. He doesn't wait on the screen and bails out and passes instantly. Once he gets down how to use a screen, he'll learn how to shoot over the top of the screen, drive, or find the screener on the roll. He also shoots the ball different ways, each possession. He hangs a little too much on his jumpshot, using his leaping to float and get off uncontested shots. Once he learns to use a pumpfake and shoot a straight up shot, he'll be very effective. I think he needs to go to OU, he'll get lost on KU's bench because he is a tweener. At Ardmore, due to their size, he has to handle alot of the rebounding, shot blocking, and post defense. It prevents him from being in transition, which is where he excels. He reminds me of a 4 inch shorter version of Cameron Clark.

Shirmane Thomas of Skyline, the 2013 kid that OU's taking a look at has a ways to go. He's more of a possession pg, never really pushed the ball. He struggled at the line, but you can see his potential. Not in the same league as Juwan Parker. He was really outplayed by a small pg at Ardmore named Travis Galbreath. Skyline was very bad. I couldn't see them winning a state championship on any level in Oklahoma. Maybe A or B. Maybe 2a. I'm suprised they beat Millwood. Heard they shouldn't have.

If he is a combo guard then he couldn't pick a coach better than Bill Self to coach him. That's exactly why they are after Nino so hard, he likes to have guys who can handle and score. I can't remember the last time the guy had a pure PG. Deron Williams was probably the only one and he was as much a scorer in college as anything.

He's not a combo guard, he's a tweener. Not prolific enough to be a shooting guard and will never be a pg. Deron Williams shouldn't even be thought of as a comparison. What I'm saying is he'll get lost at the end of KU's bench. He'll play first year at OU and start three. The ballhandling ability is not there right now and since Kansas is setting themselves up for some major guards out of Texas and the Iowa kid, Nino is going to be behind those guys do to the fact that they have a higher basketball IQ.

Also, the other thing about Nino is he's not prolific. He rarely goes off for 30plus or is unstoppable. He has the potential to be prolific, but he's not their now. So if he goes to Kansas, he's not going to be an instant scorer nor is he going to catch on as quick as some of the guards they'll have. I think at OU he'll get a chance like Clark to have growing pains. Really, the best system for him is at Mizzou. They really fit his playing style.

I don't disagree about playing time but I would have a hard time saying he would develop better at OU than KU. Capel hasn't proven that he can develop young talent. Self has.

Also, everything you read about Nino calls him a combo guard. He can play the PG position and the SG, but he really is in between. Which is the type of guard that Self LOVES. Tyshawn Taylor, Elijah Johnson, Mario Chalmers, Russell Robinson, Dee Brown, etc.

It all depends on how Nino is looking at his career. If Elijah Johnson wanted early playing time he made a huge mistake...if he wanted to become the best player possible he probably made a pretty good decision.

I think we just have different realities about Nino. You're listing KU players and that's cool and all, but he's not like those players. I know Bill Self is GREAT, and develops players but that's not what I'm talking about. but I'm not sure how much of Nino you have seen.

You'll just have to see him play to get what I'm saying.

Yeah, I haven't seen him much. Just going off what I've read from people around the country. He's always described as a combo because his position will likely be PG but he plays a bit more like a SG in terms of scoring. I understand what you're saying that he's not a pure 1 or 2 really.

I actually think he's a lot like Elijah Johnson. Super athlete, good handle, good shot, but doesn't really have a position and is really raw.
