Perry Ellis has long been on OUs recruiting board and William Jennings recently caught up with his mother Fonda Ellis to get some insight into his current high school season and recruitment.

Fonda Ellis, Perry Ellis mom pointed out to me later that OU football commit Jordan Phillips of Towanda, Kansas, has been close friends with Perry since there youth. She was very proud of the fact that Jordan was named USA Today First Team All American. The Ellis family also took in a game at Memphis yesterday. Ellis's sister of course plays basketball at the University of Memphis. Kansas University invited the entire Wichita Heights team to their game last weekend in Kansas City.

I noticed the Wichita Heights team members sitting in the first row right behind the Kansas bench during the game. I think it was the USC game if I recall correctly.

Perry is the guy sitting smiling behind #0. His mom is the lady in black with both hands raised behind the guy in the suit in the middle of the bench. This was right after Josh Selby's game winning 3 vs USC.
Danny Manning was extremely cold and had flu-like symptoms.

that snuggie is hideous. :D

I recently received an email from Perry's mother, Fonda and she told me that Coach Capel took time out of his Christmas schedule to call them and with them a Merry Christmas.

I can't tell you that. The only thing I can tell you is there is a good relationship between both of Ellis's parents, Ellis, and Capel.

Danny Manning? I could have sworn that was Ebenezer Scrooge!

About as realistic as us landing Terrence Jones was

Yup. Capel and Co. wasting a lot of gas money for trips to scout this kid and "be seen" by him in Wichita. If Kansas doesn't offer, he'll go to K-State, IMO.

He's had a KU offer for quite some times. He'll land at KU unless Memphis jumps into the picture harder.

A buddy of mine told me the other day when talking about job searching is it's easy to get someone to like you, now getting someone to believe in you enough to hire you is a different story. I think that's where Capel is. A lot of kids like him well enough, probably more than the other coaches. But if I'm looking to get the most out of what I got, which is trying to make it too the pros, I'm going to look at the guy that has the track record of getting guys to the top level.

Now Calipari is a weak X&Os coach in my opinion, but if I wanted someone to market my son and get him the best shot at the NBA, I'd give him a serious thought. Same for Self, Roy, Barnes, and now getting to that point with Drew and Pastner.

Agreed. Capel would make a great assistant at Duke or another high profile program. He could help reel in all the top recruits there, then play good cop and smooth things over with the players (make them jay-z mix tapes, exchange hugs and hand pounds constantly, play a game of horse against them in his driveway and cunningly let them win to cheer them up, etc.) after Coach K got through with them at practice.

I really think that the 2012 recruiting class is Capel recruiting for his job. If we miss the tournament again next year, and we don't have some studs lined up for 2012, then I'd say that's about all she wrote. I would actually be okay with having an NIT year next year if we had a really good 2012 class coming in.

You know how much I like Capel (as a coach), but I really can't disagree with anything you said, seniorsooner.
