Prospect Watch: Phillip Jurick and Jeremy Jones

Returning players for next year:

Walkon (2)

Franklin
Honore

Available Scholarships = 3-4 (the limit is 13, correct?). If Thompson and Hardrick leave we could have as many as 5. We already have Davis's, Abdi's and Taylor's ships open.

We would have room for Goff, Jurick, Jones, Guerrero and maybe one more.

I thought Honore received a scholarship this year. Am I mistaken?

I'm friends with Phillip Jurick on facebook and have been chatting with him from time to time. I'd be surprised if he didn't commit to OU. His mom added me as a friend on facebook as well and I hadn't even spoken to her. That should be a sign of something...

Unless they gave him Abdul's or Taylor's after winter break he's still a walk on as OU has a full 13 ships before the year started.

Maybe its a sign of narcissism?

Seems like I heard it at the beginning of the season. I must be mistaken and losing my mind!

Not trying to be a party pooper, we just only have 2. I would love to sign three players. If we have 3-4 who IYO leaves? I think Hardrick is the only possibility now that he has grade issues. But if we sign both Cezar and Jones we'll have 3.5 PG's and 1.5 SG's.

I have got to believe that Hardrick is gone. That may not be true. But if you are a student athlete who is having difficulty getting any playing time, the least you can do to keep your part of the contract is to be a student who makes his grades. Kind of hard to ask the school to honor its bargain when you don't keep up your end of the deal.

I'm sure Capel is on top of it and knows what Kyles chances are of getting his grades up to par and is recruiting as such. If we do end up with his open schollie, I don't just want to use it because we have it. If we get a solid player great if not no pressure to fill it. Goff, Jurick and a PG is enough for me. Don't want to end up with another Thompson just because we have a schollie.

Hollis Price was pretty horrible.

There are exceptions! I loved Hollis. But typically a hybrid can play both positions, but doesn't excel at either one due to skill level, mindset or size. A 2 that can play the one doesn't have the distributor/floor general mindset, and a 1 that can play the 2 isn't as scoring savvy.

I kinda like the Blake Nash kid get if they dont get Cezar... averages 22 a game in juco, shoots 41% from the 3pt line, gets to the free throw line a lot too, and has West Virginia, Seton Hall, Rutgers Creighton, Georgetown, Nebraska, Iowa State, Oklahoma, and South Florida after him. Plus he redshirted a year in juco, and will have 3 years to play.

The problem with Nash is that he has said he wants to go to a place where he can start, AND play in the Big East.

Sam Grooms is probably the best juco point guard in the country, and he is widely believed to be a big difference maker. He has a lot of big schools recruiting him, and he would come in and be the starter from day #1. Not sure what OU's chances are with him.

I dont know anything about the Jeremy Jones guy, other than DM saying he is more of a shooting guard than a point guardThey are recruiting all of these guys hard, and we know they have offered Grooms and Cezar. The other guy said that OU is one of the top 3 schools recruiting him the hardest, but I dont know what that means in terms of OU's interest in him with Cezar and Grooms on the table.

As long as they get 1 of the 3, they will have a new starter at PG next season I think.

I did?

Hollis Price was pretty horrible.

I don't consider Hollis a hybrid.

To me, Hollis was a true shooting guard, that just happened to be small. And he had a long wingspan, so the height didn't hurt him much. Nothing about his actual game said point guard though.

If OU can sign Jurick, I will feel much better about next year. I truly believe if you put Fitzgerald on the Court with a good rebounder/defender OU would have a much better team.
