When I was watching TCU play the other night, they talked about their fine PG Chauncey Collins. He's a sophomore and also their leading scorer. They mentioned he was the two-time national home school player of the year, and played in OKC. In one game against Midwest City he scored 50 points.
I found this article about Collins. I guess he dropped out of Millwood as a freshman but came back to HS to play basketball. I was just curious if OU or any other Oklahoma college ever recruited him. Collins is cat quick but obviously not very big. He would have helped OU this year
I remember a game I refereed here in Houston. It was a home school team playing a prominent church school. I expected the home school team to have a bunch of geeks on the bench doing homework during timeouts. Instead they had a 6'8" chiseled, black kid that looked like a block of granite. His name was Kevin Johnson and he was ultimately Tulsa's all-time rebounding leader for a while....maybe he still is. I rank him as one of top 10 players I ever refereed.
My point is some of these church schools have some good players.... like Collins. I guess the good ones also play AAU ball and that's where they get scouted. Collins was playing in OU's back yard.
