Re: Next Year, help me out

Baylor played the perfect game last night to show the blueprint on beating OU. On defense they played that extended 1-3-1 or 2-3 and made the Sooners hurry their outside shots. Baylor's length made the 3-pointers tough to shoot over..... kind of like Syracuse does it. Also, they had absolutely no respect for OU's post offense, so they shut down our outside game and relied on 1 defender to play the inside game. They were blocking shots at will when the Sooners did go inside.

On offense they just had their way on the boards and just overpowered us. All teams should attack us inside.

We have to get better in the front court next year. Spangler is a 4 playing the 5. He's smart and battles on the boards, but we need more offense out of him. We need the best of the 3 freshmen ready to play inside, too, and that's probably Buford. I'm hoping Lattin will be ready to play some big minutes, too. I'm also praying for a physical transfer inside like Kansas got in Tarik Black. All of our post players are finesse players and we need a banger/enforcer.

If Baylor doesn't play nearly flawless Offense, not defense, in the first half they don't win that game. For 24 minutes they were the better team, but for the final 16 we beat them all over the place. But all due respect to their defensive performance (cause BU did play well on D), but it was their 54% from the floor and 60% from beyond the arc in those first 24 minutes that doomed us... Not their Defense. They cooled off, we amped up the D, and heated up from beyond the arc in the final 16 minutes.

Re: Next Year, help me out

To address the OP's original question, height in inches is what will make us bigger as think another poster has pointed out. It also has to do with wingspan and Latin and McNese both have wide wingspans. They are long and athletics and both have reputations as rim protectors. Also, after last year we all wondered how we were going to compete after losing all that scoring, and we finished #2 in big 12 and have probably a #5 seed in the tourney. Lon and company will figure out how to utilize all this talent IMO!

Re: Next Year, help me out

I am not remotely worried about losing Clark and Neal. I like those guys, I will miss those guys but Kruger will have a better team next year.

Re: Next Year, help me out

So, we're all pretty excited about the new guys coming in. They have height and length and that will obviously help. But I'm struggling to see where we'll be THAT much bigger on the floor at one time, than this year. Let's assume like some have said that Buford takes Clark's spot in the lineup... We will be exactly the same size but less experienced.

This is technically incorrect, as you aren't factoring that we return the other four starters who will add a year of experience. So if you add up the years behind them from this year and next:
Clark-3 years
Spangler -0 (will just count ou years and could say 1 with the redshirt)
Heild- 1
Cousins- 1
Woodard- 0
Total-5

Next year
Spangler -1
Cousins- 2
Heild-2
Woodard-1
Buford-0
Total-6

While we will have another freshman starting, the entire lineup is more experienced with big 12 play and tournament games even under their belt

Of course you're more experienced at the positions you have guys returning. I'm talking about the newcomers and what slots they might be potentially filling.

Re: Next Year, help me out

This season's offense is 4 out 1 in. All the pieces fit 1st team and most of the bench, especially Neel backing up Cam at stretch 4. The offensive chemistry is what kept this too small a team competitive. That was not the blueprint the prior season and I don't believe it will be next season. This year Spangler had to stay on the floor, next year he can afford to challenge shots at the rim and on offense set picks outside if he can pop a 3.

Look at the dude in my avatar. He will supply some athleticism
