I simply cannot take it any more. Our society seems to have forgotten the difference between an adjective and adverb, especially with respect to real and really in the context of sports. An adverb often precedes an adjective and often ends in ly or y. Adverbs typically modify, qualify or change a adjective or verb. The adverb might emphasize or describe the adjective.

With that in mind a basketball player is a really good player or a very good player. Really and very are adverbs. A basketball player is not a real good player anymore than that basketball player would be a good good player.

You will see and hear this particular mistake in the media. It is becoming prevalent in our society. I would hope a community of graduates from the University of Oklahoma would not blindly follow the idiots that cannot distinguish between an adjective and adverb.

Sorry for the rant, I am sure the vast majority of you don't care and think this was ridiculous. I don't want this place or me to become the grammar police but this particular grammatical error has become so prevalent and seems so simple to me, I just lost it and had to complain.
