Reaves

Kobe's last year was 2016. They didn't get LeBron for 2 years after that and that first year was a down year. 2nd year was Covid. Since they've been barely a playoff team to out of the playoffs that one year. They are on a better pace this year than the last several years at least. But to say the Lakers have been dominant in the AD/LBJ era they've been mid at best. Probably wouldn't have won it all if we played a regular basketball season in 2020. They haven't been to the Lakers standard for really almost 15 years now because the last few years with Kobe weren't that good either. One 50 win season since 2011.
I don't get the people who say they wouldn't have won the title if they played a regular season. The Lakers were playing their best basketball right before the Covid break. Every player has said they respect the Bubble title and it may have been tougher. AD was hurt a good part of the seasons you referenced. If he's out long term, they have no chance.... some of the problems can be directly connected to the death of Dr. Buss, and his children taking over the front office. Pelinka and Magic are not Jerry West or even Mitch Kupchak. They could have run it back with most of the bubble team, but Pelinka got cute and let his big men walk.

Either way I stick with my statement LA will never tank because they will always be in play for big-time free agents.

Max Christie also showing signs of life. With Max, Dalton, and Austin, they have three young building blocks. I still don't understand why The Lakers traded away Zubac, who is a rebounding machine at times. They desperately need to get younger, and I don't mean Bronny.

When they let Ingram, Randle, and Ball go, I wasn't really upset. I really didn't understand why they let Zubac go....We could certainly use him!!

I'm bumping this because I did say the Lakers were likely going to make a big trade :-) ...of course, no one could foresee (arguably) the biggest blockbuster trade in NBA history. Now that the Lakers have Doncic and badly need a big man, I can't help but think they will offer their best trade asset (minus the obvious), Austin Reaves, to acquire a skilled big man. The Lakers are still not winning a title with the guys they have. I would love to see the Lakers keep AR, but if they do, how do they get better in the post?

Some of you gave me a well-deserved beating for my question a few weeks back about acquiring Jimmy Butler. I was clearly off-base on that one, but if the Lakers want to win a title this year, they need a big-man. Any guesses?

AR, LeBron and Doncic all kinda need the ball in hand to be effective. Reaves I guess could move off ball or you trade him. I do think Doncic is a way better long term piece to build around than AD was. The Lakers had been playing better ball lately.

The Mavs by the end of the year will have AD, Gafford and Lively at center by the playoffs. Pretty formidable inside.

It'll be interesting to see how the Lakers adjust with the new line up and as you said they are open for a big man trade.

Ar is dealt imo. Vooch maybe?? Ayton? Likely too much $

This is a bad long term trade for Dallas even if they may be better like right away with it. They basically have no future now because they have so few picks the next few years.

I think Dallas got fleeced on this one. You trade away a top 5 player and you get an aging (albeit still good) big man and that's pretty much it. I get it that Dallas doesn't want to pay his supermax, but you have to get more in return than they did. If I was a Mavs fan, I would be pissed.

a top 5 player (really top 3) that is 25 ......... 5 time first team all nba second in the MVP last season ..

it is a terrible trade ESPN gave the mavs a F

Everything I'm seeing still has LA getting Myles Turner from Indy. None of the trades proposed include AR, but that was before last night. Indy has says they won't pay Turner what he is seeking on his new contract. I believe the deal is more about the post-LBJ era. Like I told Nick a while ago, LA has never built through the draft. Free agents and trades have always been the Laker game plan, and that won't change with a Buss running the show. Of course, LBJ wants a roster that will help him win another ring before he leaves, but it looks like Pelinka did what he felt was best for LA after LBJ leaves.

I think Nic Claxton from the Nets is an interesting possibility.

Something stinks about this Luka trade. Maybe the NBA prefers him in LA since LeBron is gonna retire soon. It just doesn’t smell right.
Rumor has it his off the court lifestyle is a problem and he's getting fat. Organization believes he has no desire to make any changes.
