There is nothing in this video that most do not already know. It really is basic stuff. It seems to me that one thing which is different from guys rebounding vs girls rebounding is how much emphasis men put on coming down with the ball strong. When you go up high, grab the ball, and come down with authority, opponents instantly know you mean business. But, when a player comes down with the ball softly, an opponent is going to be right there in their business trying to steal or tie up the ball. Just the body language (which says, this ball is mine and I'll obliterate you if you even think about getting close) is enough to cause opponents to high-tail it.

Norm, a lot of old coaches call that drill the "up hard, down hard" drill. Often, the drill is run with just one kid getting the ball off the backboard and then 2 other kids trying to get the ball from him on the floor, for a couple seconds.

Basics, basics and basics.

That is exactly the drill we ran when I was in school.

The good thing about OU rebounding early-on in this season is that everybody is where they need to be.

The frustrating thing last season was them all being so well positioned that they didn't seem to know when to... shed blockers, so to speak? Everyone kept maintaining that wall around a fallen basketball bouncing in front of them for the taking... why isn't anyone just stopping with the boxing out and taking the ball, already?!

You're right. It's critical to block out but it's just as important to know when to release and go for the rebound. Joanna knew how and when to do both. Most have not learned the technique.

Yep, good memories, that's how you teach it and that's how you do it. I also like the fact that he teaches them to pivot away from the lane to get away from the traffic. Excellent teaching. We were also taught as soon as the ball comes off the board or rim to explode to it, don't wait. We have kids that don't quite have that down yet. However, Gibbs, Kellog, and Wyatt do a decent job, as does Kornet and Kaylon.
