She can look at this team and say "I can play immediately here and be a savior" or "why would I come to OU and play on a train wreck."
That is a life-altering decision.
I wonder what she will decide.
on top of playing at a better school...from the few games I've watched this year the attendance is way down. Rather play in front of 5000 fans or 500 fans.
:facepalm
In the past four years, OU has fallen from #12 to # 19,#22, and #27. But, we are talking about 3800 per game vs 5300 per game. OU is almost there with Texas, about where A&M is, and well ahead of Cal, Stanford, and UCLA. Duke finally surpassed us last year---finally.
When you look at TV games at North Carolina, Duke, or Stanford, it often looks like they could be using a highschool gym. Attendance just has never been that much of a key. If it were, Iowa State would have won the Big Twelve every year.
Those attendance numbers are for tickets sold. OU has not had 3,800 at a game in like forever. I attend all the WBB home games and have for 15+ years and average butts in the seats is now about 500-1,500. When the Sooners play Baylor, Texas and OSU the attendance will go up maybe 25-30%
What cannot be determined when comparing attendance figures is what is the actual attendance vs tickets sold. I suspect that win you are winning big the actual attendance and sold tickets are similar. When not performing to your traditional standard the actual attendance falls drastically. It has at OU with attendance about 15-20% what is was 10 years ago.
Last year tickets sold for Texas was 3,391, Baylor 3,510 and OSU 4,529. Difficut to remember but I wouls guess actual attendance was about 75% of that number versus the normal 25-40%.
You don't think that is everywhere?
... Who knows.
You don't think that is everywhere? Oh I agree that attendance is down everywhere. But I cannot speak for how much it is down elsewhere as I am not at those games. What I do know is that it is an extreme rarity for more than 1,500 folks to have their butts in seats at an OU WBB game and that the OU WGT frequently has twice that number at the LNC. I should also note that the 4 time defending MGT has so few attendees that their meets are held at McCasland not the LNC.
But fact remains attendance at OU WBB is down 65-80%. If the girls were 19-7 against Baylor and Kim Mulkey like they were in Sherri/Kim's first 11 years instead of 1-16 like they are the last 8 years I am certain attendance would be significantly better. Might even approach what it was in the Courtney/DRob years. Who knows.
I agree why come see the team play Uconn, Baylor, Texas when the game could go anywhere from non competitive to a blow out...
