I was thinking last night after the game and was trying to remember players since Tubbs left Norman who could start for every coach since, and including Tubbs.

I'm specifically speaking of the 4 or 5 spot.

The only ones I could think of are:

1.) Najera
2.) BG
3.) Osby

Tiny was a great athlete, but I don't think he was disciplined on defense to play for Sampson, or Tubbs.

Thoughts?

Minor
Jabahri Brown
Ace

I have a hard time not listing Bookout. He might not have fit Tubbs' system, but surely he was good enough to start on some of Billy's bad teams.

Yep, forgot all 3 of those, although Minor was a 3 and I was talking more about the 4-5.

Ace was very good too.

Maybe the transfer from UCSB or Long Beach, who was a sr in Capel's first year. Can't remember his name, but he was a skilled 4 who could get up and down the court and liked to rebound, if I remember correctly.

He was both. Played a lot of 4 one year for Kelvin, and mostly the 3 the next. He was listed at 6'7, 220 or so. Plenty big enough to play the "small 4" position.

Nate Carter

What about Nolan Johnson he was a combo between 3 and 4.

I loved watching Nolan Johnson. Specifically the set we ran where we spread out the other 4 players (when the opponent was playing man-to-man) and let Nolan take his man 1-on-1 to the hoop. The night we beat OSU in Stillwater in the "last game in GIA as we know it" was due a lot to this set.

However, I don't remember him playing the 4 at all, but he would definitely play for all coaches.

I wonder where he is now?

Taj Grey and Kevin Bookout! Saw the name Nolan Johnson, my favorite Sooner of all time. Loved to watch that kid take it the hole, plus he was money from the line!

Taj would have been great in Tubbs' system. I really don't see Bookout playing a significant role in Tubbs' system.

Then I guess I read the original post wrong, but Taj would have played well under Tubbs - INDEED! In reference to Kevin Bookout, I would take him over JaDoobie Brown in any system!

I would personally take a Bookout every season and like it!

Brown would make this current team quite a bit better. As good as Kelvin's teams were defensively, they took a huge jump that year Brown got eligible. Having a big guy that could protect the rim makes a world of difference.

That is why you have to love discussion boards. I see one way and you see it another way. I have always and still will continue to enjoy your point of view WTSooner, I think you are solid!

IMO, Bookout wasn't athletic enough to be a starter on Tubbs' team. He was a solid rebounder and good around the rim, but not a great defender. Solid player, but far from spectacular and overrated by too many OU fans IMO.

Jabari would have gotten more minutes than Bookout because of his defense and other athletic ability.

Romero is defitenly the typr of player that Tubbs' teams had. I would agree with some of the others listed too; Ace, Taj Gray, Blake of course...Bookout would have really struggled in Tubbs' system, but he was a solid player too.

Billy had A LOT of very athletic posts who could really play. Heck, even Tony martin scored over 40 in a game!

Daryan Selvy definitely would have played in any era. He didn't score a lot but he was a freak of an athlete.

I would add Taylor Griffin as someone that could play in all 3. With his athletic ability and passing ability in a full court game he would be a good fit for any Tubbs team even though he would likely be a bench guy. And Billy didn't play those guys a bunch.
