don't want any part of 4 quarters .... CBB is different and that is great ..

NBA coaches challenge system that is great

continuation sure

and the ability to call Flagrant one on inadvertent groin shots .. also good

Quarters would be a huge improvement.

Don't like quarters. As boulder said, why change something for little/no improvement when it's something that makes the game/sport unique.
Because there IS major improvement that comes with it. It speeds up the game (which has become a major issue due to all the reviews), and significantly reduces the procession to the foul line. On the other hand, there is no benefit to playing halves. Being unique just for the sake of being unique, or because "we've always done it this way," isn't a good reason.

Some people are so anti-NBA that they want to avoid doing anything that mirrors the NBA, but it isn't just the NBA. It is international ball, women's college, high school, all the way down to the youth level -- men's college is the only outlier.

They should implement the NBA system for all calls, just as it is right now. I don't really care either way about quarters or halves.

Playing for tv timeouts is inconsistent. There has to be a dead ball, so substitution rest times are unpredictable. Takes away from strategy to end quarters. End of halves are a free throw fest.

I can't think of 1 benefit for the game that halves brings.

I'm good with all of it. I don't really care on quarters vs halves.

If they could implement softballs review system that would be awesome....so quick

Continuity. I don't like having 4 "end of periods". I think it's lame. I also like the way the fouls/bonus situation is in college ball. Changing to quarters and an NBA model is going to change the way the college game is played. I'm not for that.

i don't think it speeds up the game ... and with quarters they would change FT to on the 5th foul and no more 1 and 1 ... I don't want any of those things

womens basketball in year 1 of the 4 quarters saw games run 1 min shorter .. and 2.6 FT a game is not really significant

Through games played Jan. 24, statistics are bearing out a positive change. Points, field goals, 3-point field goals, steals, blocks, assists and possessions are all showing improvement compared to 2014-15 end-of-season statistics. Specifically, points per team are up slightly from 64.80 points per game to 65.03. Free throw attempts are down 1.30 per team, per game. And teams are combining to have an additional 1.2 possessions per game, with games taking an average of 1:48 to play, versus 1:49 last season.

It eliminates one timeout per half. It also improves game flow. You see that women's teams don't use as many timeouts throughout most the games because they like to save them for end of game situations so they can advance the ball -- another change we need. And I heard Jenni B talk about this -- because there are four end-of-quarter situations per game, teams get better executing in those situations. How many times do we see men's college teams completely botch end-of-half or end-of-game stuff? They don't do a good job with two-for-ones, they struggle to even get shots off in a lot of situations, and they generally don't execute well. If you double the number of times they are in those situations, it stands to reason they will get better at it.

And resetting the fouls each quarter would be a massive win. Nothing is worse than when a team gets in the bonus with 12 or 14 minutes left and the entire rest of the half is a FT shooting contest. With halves, you are only subjected to a few minutes of that, at most, before it resets.

No more rule changes. If I even tried to play some sort of league basketball these days I wouldn't know any of the rules as it is.. Can you do a "gather" step?

It's degrading sports how often they change rules every year.

how many times have there been 4 fouls in the first 2 min of a half for OU this season ... (answer a lot) ..

so that would be 8 min of 2 shot FT ..

with a chance for it to happen again the next Q

I don't recall many times that exact scenario happened, but if one team in particular has issues with fouling, they need to play better defense and learn not to foul.
