S. Carolina

Dawn Staley has done amazing job with that program. She can recruit and coach her butt off South Carolina is the best bet to take out Goliath (UConn) over the next couple years.

The question is whether SC is really a potential challenger to UConn, or the latest "Rutgers" that loads up on talent, but not having a system that will win.

Mark, I think so too. She can recruit better than Muffet so I think they are second on the ladder right now with a shot at occasionally knocking off UCONN.

What system would that be? Shooting has been a problem for Scar for the last few years, with Davis and Gray coming in even if both girls are low % shooters, it'll help open things up.

They look a lot like the Rutgers teams that were so heavily recruited a few years back. As individuals, they looked good. But, they made little mistakes that get you beat, often by teams that have much less talent. You may beat a good team on a good night. But, I see UConn winning nine of ten, maybe ten of ten.

I don't see SC as a match for ND yet. UConn destroyed them. They have to learn to play like UConn plays, not just have talent.

You make very valid points but SC Looks a lot different and has a different mind set than I think Rutgers did. I don't think their is even an comparison. They lost to ND on a last second shot in the final 4 and AT UCONN during the regular season. Name 1 team who has came within 15 of UCONN at Their place.

I still have UCONN winning another NC this year. No way anyone is stopping Stewart especially in her senior season. Now that future recruiting has Expanded tremendously, if their is anyone who can put the UCONN Goliath on hold for a while it will be ND, Baylor or South Carolina, Just my opinion as of now. Louisville has the same mindset but has yet to build on their talent.
I have to put Baylor up in that category, they might be the 2nd most hated team in America but Mulkey can recruit and coach her butt off.
I also like the direction Ohio state is going as well as Kentucky but only time will tell. Brenda Freese of Maryland is still the best X's and O's coach and recruiter in my opinion and successful everywhere she goes.
I think if OU can continue to bring in the top talent and more athleticism we will surprise a lot of people over the years, but for now it's like we are content with just 3rd place big 12 finished and NCAA 2nd round and Sweet 16 appearances. OU is a sleeping giant, I hope this year we can turn more heads and earn more respect. Still waiting for Texas to produce all the talent it has coming in as well.
I also like Duke as well, especially with the addition of Lexi brown, just hope they don't have a transfer freinzy.

After next year I think NCAA tourney will be wide open for anyone. Recruiting has taken a national toll. Kids are finally realizing their is more to life than UCONN.

This is a very interesting year in the Big 12 from a recruiting standpoint. If Cox signs with a Big 12 school, I don't like OU's chances of winning the conference for the foreseeable future. She is going to be a nightmare of a matchup. Sherri has got to strike bigtime in 2017 as Texas and Baylor will be hard to handle and we can't afford to let them load up without signing some top 10 players as well.

I keep remembering that Skyline destroyed Flower Mound with Cox.

Meanwhile, with Mulkey in the game, Cypress destroyed Skyline, winning by only about 7-9 points because Mulkey fouled out---very questionably. Why couldn't Cox stop Skyline?

Since when did basketball become a One man team? I didn't know that Flower Mound changed their name to "Cox". Interesting.

But did you not forget that CyPress was the #1 team? With 3 + Division 1 commits and several key role players? Makes a lot of sense seeing how Cox is basically flower mounds whole team. Lead them to their first state tournament in years.

How did the subject even get on cox and Mulkey ?

It, once again, got on Cox.

The point about the difference in Flower Mound vs Skyline compared to Cypress vs Skyline is rather obvious if you watched the games. Cypress, without Mulkey, was not as good as Skyline, probably not much better than Flower Mound. It was Mulkey that made Cypress #1. I question if Ogwumike and Perez will be effective at the D-1 level. They were no match for any guards they met in the semis or finals.

Again,

What does your statement have to do with this Topic?

#1 Norm! And it is good for the game!! I love to see good games instead of blowouts everywhere you look around. Recruiting has gotten a whole lot better nationwide. Kansas just got a whole lot better with Calvert and Washington and I'm sure they are after a lot more transfers and top prospects. Their coaching staff is top notch.

Anyword on who Ok state has brought in( Recruiting wise) after their massive transfer frenzy?

I agree with you that what we are seeing is good for the game when we see S. Carolina, Texas, Baylor, etc recruiting the way they are. I don't like to see only a few teams that are head and shoulders above everyone else. I'm sure UCONN, Tenn, ND, etc will be really good but, I love to see other teams getting in a position to give those teams a run for their money. I just want to see OU keep up as well.

As you mentioned, KU should improve over the next couple of years and I really believe TCU will start to make a move upward as well.

I haven't heard anything about OSU.

Oklahoma State's newcomers this year are:

Jentry Holt - Fr - Elgin HS (OK)
Latashia Jones - Fr - Leavenworth HS (KS)
Alana Simon - Jr - Chabot College (CA)
Karli Wheeler - Fr - Plainview HS (TX)

I honestly see this year's team performing similar to last year's. Playing just good enough against most teams to be squarely on the bubble all season long.

OSU currently has 2016 verbal commitments from Alexes Bryant, Jaden Hobbs, and Areanna Combs.

You are both supporting Cox which had nothing to do with South Carolina. I'm saying no.

South Carolina is NOTHING like Rutgers. After all, they made it to the final four last season. I cannot remember the last time Rutgers was in the FF. Also, ND and SC came down to the last shot in the FF game. I feel that SC will push UConn next season. I disagree that SC needs to play like UConn; that's an insult. There isn't one style of basketball. Looking over the years, there have been several types of teams that have won the national championship (take Baylor and Texas A&M, for example).

You mean like they were runner-up in 2007?

Yes, 2007 - 8 years ago. How does that even compare to an up and coming SC team? The only commonalities I see are two African American female coaches, and mostly African American players. Perhaps that's the true link you were trying to make.

sybarite Seems to think you don't need elite level talent to Win, but OU hasn't been to a final four or won confrance since we had at lest 2 consistent top 20 high school recurit.
