I just went to ESPN3 and replayed a number of womens basketball games. I do that often because I can cut out of the commercials and stop watching when the game hits the junk ball stage.
I watched UConn-Notre Dame. Those teams are well out of our class.
Watched Texas crush Georgia. I have always faulted Aston for not getting the value from her always talented teams. This year appears to be different. McCarty and Atkins are playing lights out and they get Holmes back before we play them.
I watched West Virginia beat a telented Texas A&M team by nearly 20 points. They play hard and I am afraid they will dominate the boards against us. And they were playing without Martin who may have been the best player in the Big 12 last year. Their #4 player looks like a star.
Then I watched Oklahoma State take Mississippi State down to the wire. We have always had a problem handling Jensen and Coleman and now they have Goodwin who scored 35 against MSU and could have scored more with a few breaks. she plays like the Energizer Bunny and Mississippi State couldn't stop her.
Another thing that was obvious. There were a lot of quality transfers on the teams, including Connecticut and Notre Dame who always have great recruiting classes. Of all of the Sherri Coale years this was the year we needed to land some of those transfers because of our short bench. I know we were in on the lady from Nebraska but really we should have been able to pick up at least a couple of solid bench players.
