Love the 7-1 start, and how they are playing. But, have we really played anybody? Will we be in for a rude awakening come conference? Is there any team we've played so far that matches up with anyone in the Big1?? I know that Tech sucks and KU is great....

I think its the way the we have played (rebounding, defense, Grooms handling pressure, Pledger's improvements, Osby appears to be legit) that has excited fans like me. Regardless of who've we have played this club has looked organized and hungry...

I think this is what has impressed me the most. They DO look organized. They play like they know what their objective is and they have a plan to get there.

No offense to anyone intended but I havent felt this for our program in quite a few years. Nice job Coach.

+1

I don't think the level of competition we have played has been high but last year it was not that much tougher and we looked bad even when we won games. I believe we are improving as we go and hopefully when conference time hits we will be up to the challenge.

Last years schedule was tougher but even in games that were about the same level of competition we didn't look good. Virginia is probably about where Arkansas, Washington State are this year. We got blown out by Va and basically dominated most of the games against Washington State and Arkansas. We struggled to beat North Carolina Central and Central Arkansas last year. Those 2 are probably similar to the rest of our competition.

I don't think it's just encouraging that we are 7-1 right now. It's how we've looked in the games. Outside of St. Louis and the first game against Idaho State, and maybe the first half against Washington State, we've pretty much dominated every game. I don't think anyone would have picked us this good this fast. We may still not be quite NCAA Tournament level. But we are definitely a post season team this year.

Thanks Gents. Anybody seen Texas play, and how we match up with them? They don't appear to be the biggest team out there either.

Texas' most impressive victory to date is probaby at UCLA...and that's not saying much. Their two losses are to an 8-2 Oregon State team (who probably has the Pac-12 POY in their backcourt, Jared Cunningham - check out his dunk from last night - nasty) and NC State. Texas gets Temple at home and North Carolina in the next seven days, should be a good barometer on them.

I've said for weeks I'll reserve my judgment about this team until after the first week and a half of conference play. We'll all know a lot more then.

The first half of conference play is loaded with very tough competition. I expect us to be competitive but not win the majority. I just want to compete hard and play well and not look like the last two years.

OU probably hasn't played anyone as good as the top 3 or 4 teams in the conference but I think they have played against teams that are competitive with the bottom half of the conference. Washington State and Arkansas are members of a major conference. Even if they are the worst teams in their conferences, they should be similar to the worst teams in the Big XII St. Louis looks like a good team to me. ORU is a mid major but they are expected to win their conference. OU has clearly played a fairly soft schedule but there have been a few teams that should be similar to the weaker Big XII teams and St. Louis could probably be in the top half of the Big XII but St. Louis also beat OU pretty badly.

The competition will definitely get better but I think OU can compete in the Big XII. I am very interested to see how OU plays in the first four Big XII games. If they are in those games and win at least 1, they are likely a solid team. If they surprise people and win 3, they are likley a good team. If OU can beat OSU and KSU, I am going to be pretty pleased. If they somehow manage to win in Missouri or against KU, I will be very happy.

I have certainly been impressed with the Sooners so far. Hopefully we can continue to win games.

You're right about St. Louis beating us pretty handily, Denver. But I believe we played our worst game of the season that night (with the possible exception of the season opener). I gotta believe if we were to play SLU again, the margin – if not the outcome – would be much different.

And I believe St. Louis would stack up pretty well against all but the top two or three teams in the Big XII.

Well said, Cool! I feel the same way. Sure is great to be excited about OU basketball again, isn't it?
