Scrimmage Highlights

I’m not an expert but i think all 4 freshmen ( df, fears, atak and cole) are better than what we have brought in in the last few years. Agree with most on here the key is retention of them for a couple years. I wish we could have kept los.

That seems wildly optimistic. Los was considered a fringe first round pick going into his sophomore season. Cole didn’t play as a frosh, albeit partially due to injury, Forsythe was a lowly rated recruit, and Atak is unlikely to play this season. I would love for you to be right, and have no problem with you sharing your thoughts. Just seems a tad unrealistic to me that all four of those guys, especially the three I mention, will be that good.

Agree Wichita. Predicting a high level of success for any freshman before they have played much, and especially before they have really began their college with all of its distractions that can detract them from the single minded focus it take so be elite at anything, is nothing more than optimistic. It is fun for me to evaluate kids, predict their ultimate athletic outcome, and then see how it goes. I have been wrong way than predictive through the years. I remember when Buddy, Isaiah and (can't think of the other more highly rated kid) got to OU. Went to a preseason scrimmage and all three played a lot. It was my firm prediction that Isaiah was and would be the best of the bunch, the other kid next and didn't think Buddy would make it. His shot looked funny and he didn't a very good handle. Sort of looked like he just hadn't played much basketball. Couldn't have been more wrong. I though Lattin would be elite before he was done. Wrong again. Just a fun mental exercise. Now to really expose my lack of expertise, I actually think Atak will ultimately be the most successful.

If Atak can get strong enough, he certainly seems to have plenty of potential. You never know how well it will translate to college, but it sounds like he is a very good shooter. The question is always whether he is just a good shooter for his size, or truly a good shooter. If he does get stronger, I hope he sticks around Norman.
