Second half of games (Sunshine pumpers beware)

my 2 cents on the WSU game...

When WSU switch to the zone and packed it in OU never adjusted. OU continued trying to drive to the hoop where there were lots of bodies waiting. WSU played zone most if not all of the second half. Not once did OU post up in the second half, throw it in and kick it out for what might have been open shots vs contested shots. Kadeem was begging for the ball a few times while being posted up. Nobody would throw him the ball. Not saying this would have swung the game. But what OU was doing was not working.

Not sure how much Zone OU has seen this year. So definitely a learning game. :OUbball-logo:

But, but, most athletic team Kruger has had! I knew this season would be horrid, so I tempered my expectations. But some on here were thinking they could be top 4 in the Big 12. They may not be top 8 at fhe end of this atrocity of a season.

lol overreact much?

Losing on the road to wisconsin and WSU is nothing to panic about. call down. The team is growing up....the fans need to as well

LOL. You're asking this bunch to grow up? Fat chance that happens.

This thread would actually be funny…if it wasn't so downright sad.

I'm trying to come at this with facts/metrics AND the eye test. OU (#40) is a "decent to good" team right now and I hope that we can find a way to steal a few on the road in conference, but with our holes and inexperience, it's going to be a bumpy ride. I know that we have some upside and will likely improve, but I'm nowhere near ready to say this team can make the tournament.....they are a bubble team at best.
40th seems very reasonable with what I'm seeing.

honestly I'm not sure OU is 40th right now.

I'd say OU is closer to the 60-80 range.

3 losses and only one of them is ranked.

We have essentially lost to every single team that is a projected tourny team.

Clemson isn't bad so far but they haven't played anyone of note and that is our only 'good' win and it may or may be 'good' by March.

Which brings me to the Memphis game and Auburn game. I think these are must wins as far as building a resume goes. Go 0-2 or 1-1 and we'll need a 10-8 record or better in conference.

3 of 17 to be exact. You're right in that a lot of his shots were forced. I said as much on the game thread. You're wrong if you think he didn't add value. He drove the lane when his shots weren't falling to score from the free throw line. 15 points, 6 boards, 2 steals and a block is not a bad stat line.

Off night or not, shooters need to keep shooting. You definitely don't send them to the bench for anything more than a brief rest.

Well, I think CJ added some value outside of the offense he couldn't provide. My "value added" was more about Strong-Moore. He played the entire 2nd half (With Odomes on the bench), and he really didn't do much to impress me. I was really disappointed to see Rashard on the bench for most of the 2nd half

I trust Kenpom because, IMO, he is the best in the business with his metrics. His efficiency measures are the truest indicators when comparing teams. But, his system does need a few more data points/games to be more statistically accurate. To be honest, I am a little surprised we are as high as 40, but again, I trust his metrics. And the main issue, as I mentioned earlier, is that the Big 12 has 9 top-50 teams....which indicates this conference is likely going to be a meat-grinder.

ESPN has us 124th. That's too far the other way. Answer in the middle.

Even though it has been tweaked several times in the last few years, I still think the RPI is a very mediocre rating system. Every year, there ends up being far too many outliers in its system. I can't believe the NCAA still justifies its use by the committee as a viable data set for evaluating teams. It only takes into account wins/losses and where the game was played. I believe you need more data to get a true indicator of a teams ability.

That sequence midway through with the Buford-Strong-Buford turnovers to give Memphis a 9-0 run was maddening. Just spineless play. Strong continued to be worthless and Buford played well offensively only to give everything back on the defensive end. Sigh.

Really a shame we wasted a tremendous coming out party for Jordan Shepard. He was incredible today.

This team's holes are much more glaring than I anticipated. I thought they would end up being a good defensive team, but I have been dead wrong so far. They play hard, but they just don't understand where they need to be and what they need to be doing for a full defensive possession. This will take time to learn and we can expect to see more of these breakdowns.....however, I hope that eventually these lapses will decline.

Some of it is due to playing many players during the game. Another is possibly Lattin should be a bench player, and if that were true, he then has taken game minutes away from McNease who could have used that additional playing time to learn the ropes more, especially on defense.

IMO, Lon playing too many players right now. He should know by now who can and who can not

neither player should be in rotation

Buford hit 1 or 2 threes...then all tbe sudden jacks up one that he shouldn't have...late in game, maybe OT...don't remember...we just took some horrible shots snd played no def. No communication on the D end.

The mental aspect of timing...
