I don't know if anybody saw this or if it's been discussed here, but Seth Davis and SI did an anonymous poll of coaches scouting reports of the "contenders" in each conference. He calls it brutally honest, and it is definitely rough in regards to OU and other schools for that matter. its mostly stuff we all kinda know about teams, but I found it interesting this is what other coaches in our conference have to say about OU...

Thanks Chaser for sharing the article, it was a fun read. The opinions on OU weren't too surprising except for the quote about the guards not sharing the ball and wondering if there was some jealousy going on with them. At times, I have wondered the same thing. With all the media attention on Buddy, I wondered if it had a negative impact on Cousins particularly. I hope not, but it was interesting to hear a coach say it as well.

Those comments about the guards reminded me of halftime of the game against TX when Jay Williams made the comments about Cousins and Woodard needing to play with Buddy instead of against him. At times it does appear that Cousins decides he isn't going to pass the ball off in certain situations and he's going to shoot it no matter what. However, if he passed it to Buddy every time Buddy clapped his hands, there wouldn't be very many shots for anyone else. It could just be a perception thing, and Lon must actually allow a certain amount of selfishness, e.g. giving the green light at times. Otherwise, it seems like Cousins would be manning the point a lot less.

Lon needs to post this on the bulletin board

I hope OUr guys are motivated anyways, but yeah it I think we need to play with a bit of a chip on OUr shoulder. I saw some of that in the WVU game hope we can continue to play that way!

I'm not convinced the "jealousy" thing is even close to a problem. But as that as OUREALITY said all the media attention in general probably has had a negative effect...

One other thought: the statement about our defense is something I don't see at all. We have had plenty of nights where our shots weren't falling (i.e. UT, @WVU) and our D forced plenty of turnovers. I think when our D intensity is up, it makes us go as a team. That's what will help us go far in the tourney. Of course we need to hit shots, but I honestly believe that is of secondary importance to our success.

Thanks for sharing.

IMO, Buddy has become a little selfish at times. A few times in the past few games if he had given it up we get an easy layup but both times he missed. I noticed last night it seemed Cousins wasn't throwing it to him on purpose and then Cousins took the shot. Buddy at times looks like he's going to drive the length of the floor but did stop in the lane and pass it back to Cousins.

I noticed the Buddy-Isiah thing as well last night. Not usually how it goes, but I think there may be a little tension building there.

There may be jealousy, but if there is anything that Cousins and Woodard aren't, it's selfish.

They seem to prefer deferring to Buddy and only taking it as secondary scorers.

And obviously Spangler too, to a fault!

I didn't disagree with what the anon coaches said. I've kind of seen some of that from the guards. Definitely motivation though

Put that in Ryan Spangler's locker along with his box score from last night. See if he doesn't go off the next few games.

the guys ALL love Buddy.

No one Jealous. They are a close team.

Folks just want to make drama cause we had a few bad games.

kids are kids, its a long season. They got a little big headed there for a bit…….. Lon is reeling them back in now.

Enjoy the ride.

I don't think there's any jealousy between Isaiah and Buddy at all. They are best friends, roommates, always practicing together, etc. Every thing I've heard them say about each other is incredibly positive.

I think one of the benefits of having Isaiah at the point is that he has a good sense (that's developed over the season) of when to pass to a teammate and when he has a shot, as he's a scorer himself. Take the last play in the LSU game, for example. I believe the play was designed for either Isaiah or Buddy, who was on fire. Cuz nailed the shot and in every post-game interview with Buddy, he was ecstatic for his friend.

With that said, I think the guards on this team (Buddy in particular) try to do too much sometimes, and there's a LOT of one-on-one play, but I don't think that's due to chemistry issues on the team.

They're both ball dominant guards, nothing to do with jealousy. That's just an example of an assistant coach making something up to fit his narrative.

I agree Buddy tries to do way too much at times.

I don't think its jealousy. I think its seeing your name on a draft board and then wanting to see your name climb up the draft boards. They know scouts are in the stands. When you start thinking about $$$$ and your future, it can have a selfish effect on the court and I believe thats what we have been seeing at times.

Quoted in full:
"If they have an off night shooting, their defense isn't going to create a lot of turnovers because they switch everything. You can get some good mismatches on 'em, but there are not a lot of players who are good enough to take advantage of that. I think [senior guard Isaiah] Cousins takes a lot of bad shots. [Senior forward Ryan] Spangler has been down. If he misses his first couple of shots, he won't have much confidence. With [senior guard Buddy] Hield, you have to force him into making decisions. I don't think he's a great ballhandler. There have been a number of games where he has had high turnovers. I also wonder if he's getting worn down. He talks about [how] every morning he wants to make 500 shots. What I love about him is that the never quits, he has a lot of stamina. He's always cutting, always moving. Depth and low-post scoring would be their weaknesses. [Sophomore forward Khadeem] Lattin was playing pretty well, but I don't know if he hit a wall or something, because he has struggled. I think those three guards can get sticky fingers at times and stop sharing the basketball. Sometimes I wonder if there is some jealousy going on there."
I think that's a pretty fair assessment other than the speculation. Remember, the coaches were asked about weaknesses, not strengths.

While there's an element of truth in that coach's comments, the narrative, overall, is false. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Is that assistant coach jealous of me (or any of you) if we make more money than him?
