Seth Davis' Final Four X-Factors: Isaiah Cousins

If Cousins has two good games, OU is highly likely going to be cutting down the nets.

That story sort of confirms that we shouldn't judge Isaiah's performance in a given game by his point total (as some of us sometimes do). Game threads often see comments about how badly he's playing when all he's really done "wrong" is not score very much.

And often as not, he ends up scoring more points than we might have guessed while the game was in progress. When he's truly on his game, any points he scores are a bonus, just icing on the cake.

Cousins is the one guy in the rotation that has been shaky in the tourney thus far. Not bad, but shaky-- meaning I think he's capable of playing better than he's played.

Within reason, Buddy can't play better than he's played. Same with Woodard. Same with Spangler. Same with Lattin. Same with the bench guys. Of all of those guys, I think we've probably gotten the best we can reasonably expect to get out of all of them at this juncture for a variety of reasons. Cousins is the one guy where I don't think that applies.

He was OK in round one, then had a 50/50 game vs VCU where one half he was great and then pretty poor the next half. In Anaheim, while he played a decent floor game overall, I thought his shot selection was sometimes questionable. And of course, he hasn't been hitting shots save that flurry right before half against Oregon.

Overall, it's a compliment to him that I think he can give us more. And I agree with Davis that he is likely the one guy that we need to perform a tad better if we are going to take this thing.
