Shame Randle wasn't at the game yesterday......

.Taylor Griffin played quite a bit at the three when Pattillo was playing, and that lineup was awesome with Blake at center. Cam Clark still plays some three, and did much of his time against KU.

this cam has been back at the 3 as his primary position starting with the game at KU

Most 4's In college are hybrid 4's. there aren't a lot of power forwards in college. The nba is different. LK wants long athletic run the floor, alley oop, dunking machines.

Taylor Griffin played less than 20 minutes as the 3 in his career. If he and Patillo were on the floor together, I guarantee Patillo was the 3.

And I didn't say Cam didn't play the 3. But he excelled when he was moved to the 4. The move back to the 3 spot is more out of necessity, than anything. And he played quite a few minutes at the 4 against KU.

No. From memory, Pattillo couldn't handle the ball and had no outside shot. He guarded 1-5, but he couldn't handle the ball well enough to play offense on the wing.

There are a couple highlights from that game where both Griffins and Pattillo were on the floor at the same time (and a few more across youtube). It's pretty obvious :taylor776: is playing the wing in that lineup.

Capel didn't use that lineup a ton. He should have, but he should have done a lot of things he didn't do.

I see two reasons Osby or M'Baye can't play the three. One, OU doesn't have a center, so putting either of those guys on the wing would be pointless. And two, neither of them could guard the 3 spot, and neither could any other current big. There's no doubt in my mind Osby could handle playing the wing offensively. M'Baye would probably jack up too many tough threes, but Osby could play well there.

But next year if we somehow sign Randle? I'd expect M'Baye to get some run at the three. I doubt it'd be a ton, but that has more to do with M'Baye's limitations than anything else.

Nice thoughtfull post. However, I would beg to differ on one point. M'Baye has no problem guarding the 3 spot.

The main play on that video is the one where Taylor has the ball on the wing, dribbles into the lane and dishes to Pattillo for a dunk.

There's also this video in which Pattillo dunks with Taylor running around outside.

There isn't a lot of video, for the main reason that Juan Pattillo didn't play very much. Taylor handled the ball better than Pattillo and had a better shot. Those skills are why Phoenix immediately tried to convert him to a 3 in the NBA. It would have made no sense to play Pattillo at the 3 with that lineup.

If Pattillo wouldn't have been a flake, we would have seen a lot more of that lineup with Taylor playing the 3.

You may be right. I don't really know because I haven't seen him do it. It'd probably depend on who the three was. I don't think he'd be as effective on opposing threes as, say, Cam Clark. I do kind of drool over the possibility of an M'Baye, Spangler, and Randle front court though.
