While Sharane remains our best defender, we need for her to improve her scoring if this team is going to make a serious run in the NCAA tourney. We cannot rely primarily on Carter as there will be games in which her scoring is down and we need to be able to look to the senior to take a more active scoring role.

With Ellenburg gone, I thought she would be scoring at a higher average than last year. I may be wrong, but it does not seem she is shooting as much this year. Maybe the other team has their best defender on her.

In conference play she is our #4 scorer and is not in double figures at 8.3 ppg.

One thing is she has gotten in early foul trouble and we have had the people
to keep her on the bench. I do think she can contribute and will. The one thing against Tx. she had shots blocked. She did not have that against Tech. She needs to choose what she shoots against which team.

I think if she can get to the free throw line and hit 80 plus percent, which we know she can do, then that will make a huge difference.

We do need more from Kay Kay all around. I don't know if she is going to get there this year, but just hope she does next year.

Vivi does a lot of things well but one, her leg is still bothering her. All you have to do is watch and you can see that she is not fully healed by the way she gives to it. It is more evident at different times. I would guess that affects her shooting, well just her all around play. I think this team gets to the Sweet Sixteen, the finals of the Big 12 tournament and maybe wins it. That is a lot to accomplish.

I think last year Hook was reluctant to shoot a lot and Vegas often disappeared for long periods of time. That left Sharane to pick up the slack on offense. We have more options this year and she mostly lets the game come to her.

Also it appears that teams have learned to avoid the contact where she picked up so many foul. She is giving up a lot of size and getting a fair number of shots blocked.

Yep. She (and others) need to learn that you don't get the call if you jump straight up, and they block it. You get the call if you are moving. Sharane has tried to get under the basket and jump straight up. They even block Kay Kay and Vivi when they do that. Shoot layups on the move, not flat-footed.

With everyone else doing their thing, she doesn't have to be the scorer this year. She should be a bit more like Peyton, grab the garbage as it goes by and score a basket here and there. That is really where she is getting her points anyway.

Exactly! To be honest, I really thought Vivi would be redshirting this year as she wouldn't be recovered enough to play. I think she was just released by dr right before practice begun so she had no conditioning beforehand. It still hasn't even been a year since the injury occurred. I've been very pleased with her play in spite of her injury circumstances and I have high hopes on her potential once she's fully healed!

Agree. You never know who will develop but she seems like a player that could be really good.
