Sherri challenges fans

So let's accept Sherri's fan challenge and fill the LNC with loud fans wearing crimson and cream and shouting Boomer Sooner!

I have a high school classmate (so that makes her 70 years old, people!) and her husband who drive to Norman from Coppell, TX for every home game. Anyone who lives within 200 miles of Norman ought to be able to do the same on a Sunday afternoon in excellent weather, right?

new baby, otherwise i'd go :(

i'll be there in spirit while begging baby badger to take a nap

What do people think about the fieldhouse for some of these games? I know the men have a couple scheduled. I am sure attendance will pick up for conference games.

Traditionally, the women's games draw an older crowd than the men. I don't think some of them would like the stairs they might have to climb or the bleacher seats. But it would be a nice atmosphere.

Also parking issues and walking for the older crowd. I think moving games to the fieldhouse would hurt attendance.

I think there are more cars parked in handicapped parking at LNC for women's basketball games than there are parking places anywhere close to the Field House!

I've never understood people not showing up for games. The crowd at the mens game tonight was an embarrassment. Sherri puts too good a product out there for no one to show.

We have too many fans in both programs who won't make the effort to show up unless they think it's a NC caliber team.

I figure as much. This isn't anything new. I notice at the womens games there are a lot of kids - especially girls. That's an encouraging sign right there. They don't have to fill the place. Six or seven thousand would be fine.

I go to Lawrence or Manhatten and some tourney games when I can. I wish I was closer because I've always liked liking the girls play. They had a pretty good following in Lawrence last year.

Myself, I would rather catch a weekday game. My work prevents me from watching during the week. I try to make weekend games. Also, I never really noticed that alot more elderly watch the womens game.

The Thunder has had an adverse effect on OU and OSU basketball attendance, both men and womens games.

Nothing personal but i get tired of that lame excuse. There are plenty of fans to go around.

Also, all home games are on TV. Many find it easier to watch the game at home. I am not making excuses, just stating facts.

Obviously there are not plenty of fans that want to spend the time and money or they would be in the LNC. The women's attendance has decreased every season since the Paris twins graduated with little likelihood that those crowds will return to LNC in the foreseeable future.

*For the first year ever OU reported both attendance (sold tickets) and estimated attendance (scanned tickets). Per the box scores for the 15 homes games which included the two exhibition games reported attendance was 6,780 and estimated attendance was 5,167.

I can go along with that much easier than the Thunder excuse. I know it's that way for me here with the Royals. There are 140 games on TV. You get used to being able to see the game on your big TV in the comfort of your chair. No cost, no hassle, etc. You always hear about how it's much better to watch an NFL game at hyome. Having said that I think the experience of the girls is better in person. I really enjoyed seeing them last year. Plus the NoD telecast leaves a little to be desired.

If there are enough fans to go around, where are they?

Dunno. This is nothing new. We're not talking about needing 80,000 fans. And I'm sure it's affordable. I know the tickets I get from KU and KSU are reasonable. I wish I knew. If I lived down there I'd sure go - to both men and women.
