Sherri is pretty excited about the incoming class but you can tell she thinks Gabbi is going to be a special player.

She said L. Williams is very fast/quick.

She likes ViVi and said she is very skilled even though she hasn't played basketball very long. Said she will have a lot of catching up to do as she can't play before October. Sherri added ViVi has a very high ceiling.

She didn't need another guard but there was just something she liked about Penzo so she offered her.

She is looking forward to having Peyton and Maddie.

Said Kaylon must play well every night and cannot take nights off as she did this year.

She added the team this fall will be completely different from this team.

So Kay-Kay was one of the ones not giving their all. Wonder who else?

Believe you are taking this the wrong way.......you think some did not give their all because they just did not bother?? If so, I believe you are wrong and I cannot believe the Coach is saying that. I mean if we were discouraged, how do you think they felt when they never knew who would play how?

I think that what Sherri has recruited in the past couple of years is more like she wants a team to be. Maddie, Peyton, Gileysa, Vionese, LaNeisa, and Gabi are more her type. She does love Kay Kay and Gioya. But, I think she likes guards who can make things happen.

I've read quotes from many players that have said that when they got to college they thought they were giving 100% in every game. Two or three years later, they say they most important thing they learned in college was to play hard every minute they are on the court.

This may or not be on your topic. But, I think it is. By attending so many men's practices over the last 3 yrs, I thought that I was noticing that the older the player, the better shape that they tended to be in.

So, I asked Yo Yo if there was a residual effect to conditioning. In other words, was there a carryover to conditioning that built on itself year after year. He said that my observations were correct. But, the answer to my question was a simple no.

He said that there was no residual effect to conditioning. But, that it was all mental. He used Woodard and Cam as examples. A freshman and a senior. He noted that Woodard had never had to work this hard for so long. He often comes to believe that he is exhausted and can go no further. But, either in a game condition or organized workouts,he is forced to go a little further.

And then as time goes along, a little further and a little further. By the time they are upper classmen, while being in no better physical shape, they have developed the mental toughness to keep on playing at a high level through fatigue. Made sense to me.

I'm sure that plays a part. Fatigue affects a player's decision making as well as the physical aspects of a game.

Anyone who has ever done distance running knows that in the early days of running you feel like you cannot take another step. Once you feel like that, you probably have another five miles in you, but you don't learn that until after you have run that extra five miles several times. Eventually, you get to the point that you can run until your legs turn to rubber, which even the most experienced distance runner cannot prevent. There is, within the framework of each sport, the need to pace yourself within the parameters of the sport in order to give the maximum possible effort for the entire game. But, it is not mental fatigue that gets to you once you have learned to deal with it.

I don't know that I saw much evidence of fatigue other than a lack of focus.

I think she knows she needs bigs. You can't win without them. Kay Kay had a good freshman season. I am not sure any individual had the season they wanted and certainly the team did not. We need Kay Kay and hopefully next year the team as a whole is better which will should make each individual inherently better. I really believe Gioya can make things happen. She can get to the rim but she was a freshman on a team that seemed to get worse instead of better as the season progressed, she seemed to do the same. However, like the team, she seemed to have flashes which showed a really good player.

Sorry, I do not mean to be obstinate or contrary, which maybe it sounds like that is exactly what I am doing. :o Anyway, looking forward to everyone having a great season, next year. Oh, and Kay Kay and Gioya are the players that I look forward to watching next year. Every team which I follow, I can only follow if there are player whom I really like for a whole host of reasons.......guess the totality of the person.......besides the two I mentioned, also Sharane and Peyton.

I'm excited about this class. I feel like Gabbi will do great once she gets comfortable with D-1 ball. I don't know much about Penzo other than her being a fierce competitor. Williams could be the sleeper of the class. There's no substitute for speed and athleticism, plus she can really defend. Vionise Pierre-Louis should make a really good post player for us. I just wish she was coming in 100% healthy. When you add Peyton Little to the mix, that's a pretty good group.
