Should I start Fire Porter Moser .com

At the end of the day, Roger is a numbers and dollars guy. All he has to see is that the season ticket base has gone from the 9,000s to the 4,000s, and the lost fans won't be back until Porter is gone.

Teddy is on record as wanting to roll out a team with no NIL just to fill in a spot in order to receive SEC revenue sharing. He's not for putting resources into basketball.

As quoted from a poster on another board:

"I'd support Teddy Lehmans idea he had the other day. Get a local coach & some Oklahoma players that actually want to be SOONERS, not mercenaries you're paying to be here. Throw a team out there so you can draw the TV revenue money. Maybe after a couple of years they develop into something. If not who cares, your not dumping a bunch of money into a sport no one gives **** about."
Ha I had a similar idea. Esp, if they keep Porter Loser. But longterm, I believe the mens Bball team actually makes a profit right? I think maybe softball is the only other sport to make a profit. I am against any huge expenditures in any non-revenue sport, but I don't know think mens bball is a waste at all. But I do understand not paying buyouts when its a years' worth of roster salary..

We could essentially pour 2x, like 15 million into a roster after Porter Loser is gone

I've never heard him say anything remotely like that on the pod. He does like having Oklahoma kids on the roster, in football, too. But the poster is making up the last part if they claim he said that no one cares about basketball or that he doesn't want them to get any NIL.

I don't recall this being his position.
I'd have to go back and listen but I'm pretty sure he was saying IF we aren't going to commit the resources to the program, you might as well roll out a team like described

Mens Basketball was turning a profit before the roster costs became $5 million+

In NIL era, only football makes any profit. That’s why non revenue sports are likely to be gone unless wide sweeping regulation/oversight occurs.

Our best days in both revenue sports were when we recruited locally (Oklahoma and Texas) and filled in with national players. That was in a different era.

I'm still for getting the best guys you can get and backfill with local players that will bleed for the logo.

Does softball make a profit?

Well, hard to argue against pouring every single chip you can into the football bucket imo. I get it

My understanding is that only football and men’s basketball have ever turned profits. Now with NIL factored in, the non-revenue sports are even deeper in the negative.

Softball does not generate a profit. Currently, only OU football does, and men's basketball is the only other sport to turn a profit at one point.

Haha. I think it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the new AD wants to 1. Give Moser more $$ to work with. 2. Let the buyout go down again and 3. Examine a full season with Moser for himself as opposed to just the last month of the season. It’s not like the new AD is an OU guy. I doubt he really knows much about the last four years with Moser. The stuff that we’ve been calling out for years may be a mystery to him. He may need a full year of failure to see it for himself.
It should take Denny about 5 minutes to review moser tenure and come to the obvious conclusion. We gave moser more NILthis season and it’s shaping up to be his worst. There should be no decision. It’s already obvious what has to happen. The buyout shouldn’t be a problem. There is no reason for anyone to need to examine any more of moser at OU. It’s OVER.

I don’t think increasing NIL will be an option if we keep moser. It’s gonna be hard to ask donors to increase giving to a guy like moser who is just lighting the money on fire.

This. I find it odd that anyone could seriously say that Denny can't have any knowledge of Moser the previous 4 years, and only have any realistic evaluation of him, what, being in person? Regardless of what many on here think OU is still a national brand name and people notice when they are sucking. Besides, just what in the hell is his job, that he's getting paid over a million dollars for, anyway? All he has to do is go to Soonersports.com and go through the schedule and records, but even that would be rudimentary. If he is in fact a good AD like we hope, he has his finger on the pulse of not only how the team has been doing but the fans' feelings, obvious donor non-giving patterns, low attendance, shrinking season tickets... He's not a moron, I hope. If it were, like, the end of year 3 and he had had a really good year, maybe you need more of a sample and a pattern. But it's beyond me how anyone could consider not being able to see after year 5. He's had not one good year. I don't count good years as barely sneaking into the tournament. Plus, Denny comes from a basketball school. Surely he has people on his rolodex that, if he can't figure it out himself, show him how woefully inept everything about Moser is. Heck, I mean he sees Brad Underwood right there under his nose. This shouldn't be as hard as some are making it. My only worry is that some of the idiots already at OU who have been complicit in keeping Moser around this long won't fill Denny's mind with some idiotic ideas. I know he's new, but this isn't a job managing electronics at Walmart. He needs to have the nuts to do what most everyone else with half a basketball brain can see. I mean heck all he talks about in his interviews are dynasties and championships. Well it ain't happening with Moser, so you better get started, boy!

Precisely. If someone who has been working as an assistant AD at a power conference program isn't aware of OU's issues under Moser, then we have a massive problem. I don't work in sports but if you name any power conference program, I could tell you immediately whether their basketball team has been good, bad, or indifferent for the past five years. And for people working in that world? They all know the same people. They know the same agents. They talk to coaches and media members. He obviously hasn't watched all 160ish games of this garbage like we have. He may not know that Moser had six players on the court against Providence to nearly blow a game, or realize that Oweh beat us twice at the buzzer. But I'm confident he knows that OU has largely become a nonfactor nationally since Moser hired, and he probably knows the general trend is for us to fold like a cheap suit once conference play starts. And since he was a candidate for this job months ago, I would certainly think he is pretty familiar with this season's team.
