Was flipping through Big 12 scores and noticed Kansas got beat 43-7 by Memphis... They also got their ass kicked by Ohio 37-21 on their home field. This is a team that went 0-12 last year.

Is this not the worst major conference football program in the nation? They need to do what other programs who can't get talent do... Recruit a bunch of pure athletes and run the spread option or go 100% Air Raid.

I think they should go gimmick and do 1 of 2 things:

A.) Hire a Paul Johnson (Navy/Georgia Tech) protege and go triple option/spread option. Georgia Tech (despite a bad year last year), Navy, Air Force, Georgia Southern, and a few others successfully do this.

  • Georgia Tech went 11-3 and finished #8 in the AP poll running the option
  • Navy went 11-2 and beat Pitt in a bowl game in 2015
  • Georgia Southern went 8-4 and won a bowl in 2015, and 9-3 the year before that
  • Air Force regularly makes bowl games and is competitive in the MWC with this offense

Look at Air Force offensive numbers with this system from a year ago:
  • Put 37 points on San Jose State
  • Put 31 on Wyoming
  • Put 42 on Fresno State
  • Put 58 on Hawaii
  • Put 35 on Utah State
  • Put 37 on Boise State
  • Put 47 on New Mexico
  • Put 36 on Cal

Look at Navy last year, same offensive style, same recruiting challenge as Air Force:

48 on Colgate
45 on East Carolina
28 on UCONN
33 on Air Force
24 at Notre Dame
31 on Tulane
45 at Memphis
55 at SMU
44 on Tulsa
31 on Houston
44 on Pittsburgh

This is Air Force and Navy... who can't even recruit normal players. Kansas basically can't even score a touchdown right now. They are absolutely inept, and teams who can't even recruit normal football players are running systems that score a lot of points, teach good fundamental techniques, and win football games.

B.) Hire a Mike Leach person and go Air Raid. Mike Leach puts a competitive team on the field at Washington State (a horrible program) and had Texas Tech on the national stage a few times with that offense. Go 100% air raid, throw the ball 70 times a game, etc. Not a pistol variation, not a Baylor/Art Briles type of thing, just pure 100% Hal Mumme/Mike Leach Air Raid. That seems to require less talent to at least put a competitive team on the field than the Art Briles/Baylor system.
