It's embarassing that this guy and I are from the same city. Did anyone see any of First Take or him on ESPN this morning? Obviously he has downplayed Blake Griffin for much of his career even when he was in college, but the backhanded "compliments" this morning were pretty nauseating--and this after a masterpiece of a performance from Mr. Griffin. Skip Brainless was openly questioning Blake's toughness, saying he let Odom "push him around" when they beat the Lakers the other night, saying that he was too limited coming out of college, didnt lead his team to a championship, only shot 50% from the FT line (I thought he was closer to 60%, but I might be remembering that wrong), and just on and on. Yes, he had some limitations (he's 6' 10", he wasn't doing 20 foot shots routinely), yes he did not lead OU to a championship, but come on Skip...

The thing was, Skip had a chance to redeem himself a little bit re: his public declarations about Blake, but he blew it. Chris Broussard had to come to Blake's defense multiple times.

I mean, seriously? Not saying he should be a homer but good grief!!

Also, sorry if this post is in the wrong place, already been discussed, etc, just had to vent a little :)

Clearly he's hamming it up a little, my friend, but does it not seem a bit odd when he is the ONLY contrarian on this issue?

Skip Bayless has made a living by playing the role of "shock jock".

Your point was taken camp, my last post was in response to your statement that "If they put two guys across from each other who agree on everything, no one would watch"--my point was that a lot of people are echo-chambery regarding Griffin when Bayless is not in the room and I don't know if that prevents people from watching sports shows.

carry on.

Bayless is a perfect example of the saying, "Some people will do anything for money." I'm sure he knows exactly how stupid he sounds, but he's getting paid, so he doesn't care. As long as it stirs controversy and viewers for ESPN, that's all they care about.

It's good for the show, just as your post said "Did you hear what First Take said today???", it's a means to get people talking about the show. Arguments are entertaining, that's why they are televised on multiple channels...I don't see many channels giving a live feed of the Jintao-Obama talks going on right now. There is no entertainment or shock value associated with that.

Furthermore, the show is set up the way it is to put the viewer in a position where it feels like they are arguing with someone like Skip, not Broussard or whoever is sitting across.

Skip Bayless is to ESPN what Glen Beck and Keith Olbermann are to Fox News and MSNBC.

I laugh at a few things he says, but choose not to take him seriously... Some of his crazy statements aren't a reflection of his beliefs, but stated for ratings, etc.

I had a marketing internship with The Sports Animal awhile back, and though I haven't personally met him, my boss and colleagues all had good things to say about him (he stops by The Animal occasionally when he visits OKC). They said much of his opinions are for shock value; he really isn't arrogant and dogmatic like he portrays on TV.

He grew up with Craig Humphreys, of course everyone at the Animal likes him.

I honestly don't know why anyone should feel comforted that he gets on television and says things he doesn't believe. That's not exactly a point in his favor, in my mind.

I can't speak to what he's like in "real life," but the character he plays on television is pathetic.

Does anyone ever watch any of the shows his brother, Rick Bayless, is on? Hard to believe they are from the same family. His persona is diametrically opposed to that of Skip. Exceedingly gracious and polite.

ESPN is an entertainment company. They hired him to play a character. He does his job and earns a paycheck. If you don't like that he does that then turn the channel.

I don't watch his show (often). I also choose to criticize his absurd, mean-spirited television persona. The suggestion that someone should be free from criticism simply because their employer likes the fact that they say stuff they don't believe is ridiculous.

I love Mexico One Plate at A Time. Honestly still can't believe he is Skip's brother.

I only saw Craig once or twice when I was there for that summer I interned, and I don't think he had any bearing under the department I was in. Maybe they were sugar-coating when talking about Skip to me because of Craig's friendship with Skip, I don't know.

And I've never watched his brother's show, but I too have heard there's a huge discrepancy between their personalities. Crazy.

Apparently Skip is the greatest actor of all time because he plays the pompous ,clueless, brainless OU basher to perfection.EVERY single time OU or a Sooner or former Soonerare discussed Skip starts off blathering about being from Oklahoma and being a lifelong Sooner fan.He then oroceeds to bash the school, coach, player or former player from OU who is the focus of discussion.:clark:
