Smart the FLOPPER, WOW....

The jealousy is running high today.

How does that #3 seed feel? Oh wait...bout that...

At least you ended the season with a win though! Oh wait....dang guys

Well at least you can call Marcus Smart a flopper! No worries though...we want him wearing Orange and not that ugly crimson so you can keep Hield

I'll take Hield for the next 3 years while you're clinging to your memories of that year you had Smart and managed to split with your biggest rival. ;)

I doubt you would take Hield the next 3 years over having Smart for a year. I bet most would give up Hield just to have Smart on this team for a year.

Here's a vote over a 4 year player like Buddy over a one year player like Smart.

We will see...

Osby,Pledger, Fitzgerald, and Grooms had much more to do with OU's success this season than Hield did. Hield has added energy, some scoring, and defense from your freshmen class.

He isn't a guy who will carry a team. I'll be interested to follow OU basketball next season...you all will basically have the same team minus your top 2 scorers, your best guy off the bench, and your best pure PG who were all SR's with a lot of experience

I think if we get as far as OSU in the tournament, it's even more obvious that 4 years of Hield would be better.
OU going 13-5 in the Big 12 in the next few years isn't out of the realm of possibility. And so far, that's all Smart has gotten for them.

OSU is ranked in the top 15...we haven't even cracked the top 25 once this year.

Smart is up for the Wooden Award.

Its the same argument for Warren and Clarke. 1 year of Warren or 4 years of Clarke. Warren makes it to the Elite 8, and Clarke has yet to see the NCAA tournament...and he will this year just b/c he transferred to a team that was going to make it regardless of him being on the team.

What if OU doesn't get back into the tournament until Heilds senior year..you will still want him over Smart???because OSU might get back in the tournament next year without Smart.

The question is, will Hield ever be as good as Smart is right now...and the answer is most likely not because Smart has worked his way into a top 5 draft pick and on the Wooden List.

If OSU and Smart make the Elite Eight this year, and we never do with Buddy, then yeah, I'd say I'd rather have the one year of Smart.

That said, I'd be very shocked to see OSU in the Elite Eight.

Umm no. Love Smart's game, but I will take Hield in an instant if its 4 years to 1.

We had Pledger for 4 years, Crocker for 4 years, Fitzgerald for 4 years....what did that even mean to OU BBALL...OSU has had Smart for 1 year and they are a top 15 team. Just like KU, they have McLemore for one year..most likely a 1 or 2 seed. But you would give that up to have Hield for 4 years. You have no idea how good Hield would be. We know how good Smart is.

The reason anyone would take Hield for 4 years over Smart for 1...is the fact that you don't believe your coach can recruit and replace Smart so you settle for a 4 year player. Ford has replaced Smart with not as good of players but 2 top 100 recruits.

Pledger, Crocker, and Fitzgerald weren't even close to Hield in skill and upside as freshmen.

And guess what? Crocker was a major contributor on a team that went to the Elite Eight.

Again, Smart led OSU to a 13-5 Big 12 record. He hasn't accomplished jacked squat. If they don't go on a nice run in the tournament, he will have a lasting legacy of absolutely nothing at OSU.

Bingo. Look what he's doing as a freshman, especially on the defensive end. Now add a respectable offensive game which he will develop and he could be an all-time great sooner guard.

I guess you would say the something about osby, that he will have no lasting legacy and hasn't accomplished anything.

And Kruger has accomplished jack squat as well?

At OU, maybe, but taking 4 different programs and maybe 5 to the NCAA tournament is pretty stout. Especially when you consider each of those programs were down when Lon was hired to revive them.

I remember when Sutton took his first OSU team to the tournament and every aggie fan I knew bragged about how great a coach Eddie was for taking 4 programs to the NCAA tournament. Lon is about to eclipse that record and become the ONLY coach to take 5.

As to your counter-point about Osby, I think we can both agree he doesn't get near the amount of pub as Smart.

In regards to Smart, I believe the fact the coaches voted him all conference legitimizes his talent and what he's done for OSU. I don't give the press as much respect because they buy-in to the hype, which Smart has had a lot of hype this year, but the coaches have to prepare game plans to stop Smart. They know who is POY material and who isn't.

I would say that Osby was a significant contributor to his team's success this year.
I would say that in two years, Kruger took one of the worst teams in the league and turned it into one of the best. If he left after this year, I would say he probably didn't leave much of a lasting legacy on OU.

My point was just comparing one year of Smart to four years of Hield. If Hield makes an Elite Eight or better and Osby doesn't, then I will say Hield and his team would have a better legacy.

So let me get this straight, Smart has to go to an Elite 8 or farther to leave a lasting legacy at OSU?

If that is the case Kruger hasn't had a single player of his leave a legacy at any school he's coached at in the past 20 years.

Well, he took Florida to the final 4 in 1994, which was 19 years ago. UF's first ever final 4. When they hired him, their program was about equal to OSU's in the time period between Iba and Sutton, which as you know is pretty bad.

Oh, 19, my bad. So Kruger or his players left zero legacy at the 3 schools he's coached at since then while he was getting bounced in the first and 2nd round 7 out of 8 times (1 Sweet 16) while he added to his overall losing NCAA record in that time period. I'm just trying to get all this straight. I figured he would have left a legacy at some point since Forrest Gump was released since I do think he's a good coach but since Elite 8s are apparently the measuring stick I've been wrong and he's been worthless for two decades.

The funny thing about this thread is that no one is questioning whether Smart is a good player. He's a very good player. He's still the floppingest fish in the big 12.
