Softball

this board is so aggressive and nasty when they read something they disagree with. I come and voice an opinion and get attacked and called names, like this is high school? The 3rd game was very important as we are battling for a top 8 seeding in the postseason. Sweeping texas is a very good step in being able to overcome a weaker SOS this year and winning the SEC and landing a top 8 seed. anyway, done with this board.
OU is #3 in RPI they would be in the top 5 still if they had lost game 3 .. they have 0 sos issues to worry about ..

you mocked the OU HC in your post .. (you know the best softball coach OF ALL TIME) ...

if you can't handle the heat .. that is on you

That is a week old...games though April 21st. We are now #3.... warrennolan.com has a live rpi that updates after every game.
I know we're #3 now, but before the Texas series we were #9, they even showed the graphic during one of the games. We've gone up since we swept them, which was crucial, and that's why i was hoping we didn't blow that last game after having an 8-0 lead. I go to ncaa.com for the RPIs though

If we win one game against Florida and neither A&M or Tennessee sweep each other, we win the SEC. If we win two against Florida, we win the SEC no matter what!

Thanks! I was wondering how that all worked out. I believe we will win 2 or even all 3 Florida games, but you never know since it's an away series.

Some of the coaching decisions by gasso this year have made zero sense to me. Barker has been able to get on base this game subbing for Sanders who is sick today and instead of letting barkers get a shot at the plate with two runners on she put Sanders back in and Sanders pops up and leaves two runners on... Dayton follows up with the same thing. Left two runners stranded and a struggling Landry at the bottom of the seventh... I hope that didn't cost us the game because some of her calls this year have really hurt us as far as base running etc

You are assuming that if there is a base-running problem, it's automatically Patty's fault instead of a player's fault. Barker did get on base but she made a costly throwing error, which led to Florida scores. Landry had to deal with a strike zone that varied from pitch to pitch, player to player, and inning to inning but she persevered and we won the game. That's all that matters.

You saw towards the end why we need Sanders in the lineup. Defense. If she happens to hit a bomb, all the better. That doesn't explain Emmerling however. But we won. We are now big Tenn fans tomorrow, or we can just win tomorrow and what Tenn and aTm do doesn't matter

sanders is a decent player but jmo patty has 3-4 youg players that were substantially better that have left the program as opposed to playing behind her. Hard to question anything patty does but some of her personnel decisions have been head scratching. How tia and barker haven’t been in the lineup all year is hard to understand for me. Why she plays isabella at catcher is strange. She a piir defensive catcher and usually can’t find contact with the ball at the plate. Maybe she doesn’t have anither catcher

Whatever her thinking it works.

the graphic they showed on espn was from the NCAA rpi which was a week old ( it only updates 1 time a week) walternolan updates every day OU was not 9

sanders has an ELITE OPS and OBP ..... and now plays very very good defense ... not hard to understand at all ..

OU only has the freshman Hicks behind emmerling and she is not ready ...

almost everyone thinks the freshman coming in next year will be the starting catcher ...

BTW, I wondered after the game if the number of pitches thrown by Sam was unusual. Did some googling. Rachel Garcia (ucla) threw 230 pitches in an 11 inning game a few years ago and the NCAA record for the most pitches by a single pitcher in a softball game is 390. Creighton's pitcher did that and she won the game 1-0.

So, I guess in the grand scheme of things Sam's pitch count wasn't crazy at all. If a baseball pitcher threw that many he would need to be hospitalized. Must be something related to the underhanded motion that makes that possible. BTW, Sam was incredible.

Oh and Boulder, I like Cydney as a player, so nothing against her, but I have thought a number of kids that came and left were better. Didn't look at stats, my eyes (which clearly could be failing me apparently) have told me others were better and had more potential. Thinking mostly about Erickson, Nugent, (the girl that went to Houston), Barker and Milloy. I have nothing against Sanders at all.

Sanders OBP .496 OPS 1.105

Nugent OBP .373 OPS .982 (not as good as Sanders)

Erickson OBP .485 OPS 1.188 (a very very good player OU would love to have her as the C this season)

Milloy OBP .298 OPS .845 (not in the same universe as Sanders)

Barker OBP .431 OPS 1.196 (a good player but not as good on Defense and gets on base less)

Hicks isn't ready now and I'm not advocating for her, but if you stick her in the lineup in February and go with her all year who knows? You might give up a few home runs, a few passed balls, and almost no threat to throw out runners.

I've never quite understood why fans doubt Cyd Sanders' value to the team. I sometimes wonder if her quiet demeanor (showing little emotion) might be a contributing factor.
