Softball

Dayton was the leading average hitter in the Big 12 before she transferred here so seems reasonable not to replace with a raw but talented freshman I would say.

I still feel pretty good. I think we can take care of Oregon. The question then is can we beat Tech twice. Neither Canada nor Landry can pitch both games and neither team is deep in pitching so it comes down to offense. I like our bats over Tech’s. Of course beating Canada in the first game is not going to be easy.

I wouldn't be surprised, if there are two games, that Canaday and Landry pitch both.

I really wish Landry didn't have to pitch at all last night but our backup arms have been unpredictable to say the least and I can see why gasso put her in with our season on the line. That puts us in a pretty bad predicament for tonight though. If Landry can go and entire game tonight will she be good enough to hold the raiders bats in check? I don't see us being able to get but maybe a couple runs off nija, if even that. Texas played her back in February and was only able to come up with two runs in 9 innings worth of play. I know she's dealing with some sort of a blister issue so I don't know if she can go for two games in a row but I think our best chance is to squeak out that first game and then hope our backup arms are better than theirs are. If it's just up to the offense I know we have the advantage

I think Canady would because she is fresher, but IDK if Landry if up for that, after pitching back to back days already. This staff really missed out on a good second arm this past portal season I hope that changes before next season.

This might be a hot take but why don't we find someone to replace Pickering out there in the outfield for next season? She missed three very catchable balls in the last couple games that ended up costing us our season. One against Texas in one that just cost us the game and the end of our season against tech. Awful fielder out there and she was garbage at the plate this game as well. Right when we had the momentum going our way too

We probably would if we could find someone who could also hit as well or better than she does.

I don't think Kasadi can play left field. She was a capable right fielder, not as many balls hit that way, but the last 3 errors she made especially the first one and extra especially tonight cannot happen. She had a miserable series, it seems to happen to someone every year, this year it was her. She will be back as a hitter, no ? about that, but her fielding may be a problem. With a healthy foot can Ella play first, and Pick DH?

Yeah I have no doubt that if Jordi had stayed we would have won again this year but should have could have would have.. I think it's crucial we pick up not only one elite pitcher but two, if there are that many in the portal. I also think that we need to address the catcher situation emerling was three of 26 before last night's game in her attempts at throwing a player out. That is not to the sooner standard and that has to be addressed. I do believe the freshman that come in this next season will be impactful immediately and I'm really looking forward to seeing them and what they contribute. I think next year we will be even better

I am laughing at the people on this board. Pickering made 3 errors through 61 games this year and 1 that was ruled an error in the WCWS. Yes, she plays right field better than LF but she is absolutely a good outfielder. She is way better in the outfield than Ella Parker. Is she Jayda Coleman in the outfield? The answer is no but nobody else is either. I like Dayton in left and Pick in right. The Tech game winner was out of her reach. OU would not have made the WCWS without Pick, there is a reason that she was named First Team All American. Bottom line is that this is the youngest team that Patty has ever had and they performed way above expectations. If OU had one of those core stars from last year (Hansen, Jennings, Coleman, Brito, or Maxwell, they win it all again.

I seriously doubt Pickering is an All American because of her outfielding ability. I think with Kai Minor coming in next year maybe pick is our DH and Parker plays first base, idk. If you think about it coor and other fielders of her defending ability probably would have been able to catch that ball. It'll be interesting to see what weaknesses gasso addresses in the portal. Catcher definitely has to be one if incoming freshman Wells is not ready...

Pickering She was am All American by every service. She Like I said, she made 3 errors in 61 games. In contrast, Sanders made 6, Emerling made 5, Marinas made 5, Garcia made 4, and Landry made 3. I would bet you anything that she will be starting in the Outfield next. Patty knows better than both of us. I can tell you that Patty Gasso would not put her in the field if she wasn't confident in her defensive ability. Defense is what Patty coaches on the team. and she always has during her tenure at OU. J. T. does the offense and Rocha does the pitching.

Comparing an outfielder's errors to the infield isn't really fair.

I don't think she is bad in the outfield. But she isn't great either.
If she was a mediocre hitter, I do not think she would be playing.
But her hitting more than makes up for her defesne being average

There is a difference between what is scored as an error and what plays need to be made to win championships. If the play she bobbled against Oregon wasn't scored an error thats poor scoring, or if it was the one against Texas not scored an error, same thing. Both need to be made. The ball against Tech got over her head because she didn't position herself close enough to the wall, again not scored an error but has to be made. She has a good arm and if she's in RF instead of Barker that run might not have scored. So I think she can play outfield, RF specifically but would prefer her not to be in left. She's a great hitter and teammate and very important to this team, no question. But it is true she had the lowest fielding percentage of anyone not a pitcher who played regularly.

Hicks to the portal. Can't blame a kid for leaving and not waiting their turn to play when the player ahead of them is not as good a player as they are. If you aren't playing ahead of emerling, then you are being treated unfairly or you just are never going to be good enough to play. Not having any inside knowledge of the facts, I don't know which is true. In about 25 at bats, she hit 100 points higher for average than Bella and hit 3 home runs (extrapolated out over the 250 at bats Emerling got, she would have hit 30 home runs). Have no idea of her skill behind the plate, but Emerling only threw out 3 of about 30 attempts at stealing so couldn't have been much worse.

According to McComas, we have a top flight catcher coming in next year by the name of Wells, so maybe Hicks also didn't want to have to compete with her after the two of them sit another year behind Emerling.

Not sure about "hot," but that may be one of the poorest takes I've read all year. Take Pickering off that team and the Sooners don't make a Super Regional, much less the WCWS. Do you ever give any thought to what you're saying before you hit that "send" button?
