Softball

This series has just looked bad for us on the offensive end of the ball. Our pitching has not been horrible, but are huge bats just haven't shown up and it's reminding me of the Alabama series from last year. We barely won the first game in extra innings and then took two losses in a row on account of just being shell shocked because of the environment.

Of course we came back and run world bama two games in a row in the supers....

I fully expect our girls to come back tomorrow ready to do more aggressive at the plate. Two games in a row, technically three if you count Monday night's game where our offense has not looked its best. I don't see that happening 4 games in a row but we will see.

On the bright side, Ole Miss has won the series on the road against tennessee. Fantastic news!!

I think some of our hitters are struggling because this is the first time OU has faced top level pitching. On the other hand, LSU has gone up against strong pitching because they've played a tougher schedule than us. We just need to make some adjustments and I have confidence in J.T. to do this.
True! Only 8 of our 28 non conference games have been against Power 4 opponents.

Okay so we started off hot scoring four runs in the first inning going up 4-0. Bottom of the second and LSU has hit back-to-back homers and another hit to get them on first base without an out. I don't know why gauchino does this every game but she gives up long balls almost every outing I've seen.

Sooners finally came through at the plate with four homers and won a game that was getting dicey there at the end 8-4... Gauchino pitched a complete game with 11 k's

Poor Texas. It's about time we were in first place!!
I am curious as to what the rankings will be tomorrow. Guessing Tx. Tech will be number one...not sure how the next 4 seeds will shake out. Then we play Tx at Tx this coming weekend. That series makes me anxious.

so Softball America jumped Alabama to their #1 team in this week's rankings! Bahahahaha. ANYTHING to not put OU up there, who stayed at #3. Someone definitely doesn't like the Sooners on their team there. Oh, and if the Sooners lose 1 or 2, or even 3 games in Austin, guarantee SA will hit them massively in the polls next week.

I'm starting to think you're right about this. I can understand moving Texas down to #4 and Alabama to #3 perhaps. However jumping both OU and Tech is questionable. Well, we need to make sure we take care of business against Texas this week! Boomer!!

How is everyone feeling about the Red River Rivalry series starting tomorrow????

I think both teams are very closely matched. They probably have the better pitching staff, while we probably have the better offense. I think our defense is rated higher w/less errors on the season, but our defense is still not as strong as I has been in the past. Games are in Austin, so I do believe that would have the Horns an edge. I hope it's 3 closely contested, entertaining, high quality games. I hope we can win 2-1, regardless who wins I seriously doubt there will be a sweep either way.

Let's go!! BOOMER!!

I'm more of a Full Monty kind of guy. I always hope for a sweep.

I'm hearing that the tickets are at an astronomical rate for this series. Looks like there's going to be some weather, hopefully that doesn't impact the game time. I know a lot of folks would be upset if they cancelled or postponed tonight's game in favor of a double header tomorrow, or something along those lines. Fingers crossed!

Interestingly enough Kavan has struck out seven batters in three innings. Yet we are up 2-0. As of now... What really discourages me is our bats don't look impressive at all anytime we face a remotely decent arm. Wells and Pickering have struck out both times at the plate.

Okay errors like this with Dayton leaving base early when the batter was walked and being called out for the second out in the top of the 7th drives me absolutely bonkers what an incredibly stupid mental error!

This has been the absolute worst game to watch. Multiple rain delays and Kavan has pitched close to 150 pitches in the top of the 7th inning and we have two runners on base and Garcia swings at three pitches outside of the zone to give her an easy third out (she's 0-4 for the game now).. I hope Texas doesn't make us pay for it and steal this one from us whenever the game resumes 😣

OU softball comes up in the clutch moments, takes Round 1 at Texas, 3-0

There are not going to be a lot of plays to differentiate things between OU and Texas softball. It is going to be the execution of the little things and not making mistakes.

Round 1 goes to the Sooners. OU was brilliant in doing all the little things. And some big things, too, on its way to a 3-0 victory at Texas on Friday night.

Ella Parker got it started early, with a two-run home run in the top of the first. After that? Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan was nearly unhittable.

Nearly unhittable, but it did not matter because the OU defense continued to make one top-notch play after another.

It began with Ailana Agbayani getting a great jump on short fly ball, making an over the shoulder grab to save a run.

Still 2-0 in the fifth, Texas started with a triple. Parker, though, turned a short fly out into a double play, gunning the runner at the plate.

Through the first six innings, Texas was 0 for 10 with a runner on base.

Audrey Lowry kept the Horn bats at bay, and eventually, OU was going to provide her with some more help.

That came in the form of Isabela Emerling smashing a solo home run in the top of the sixth. The defense was once again on display in the bottom half, with a 1-2-3 double play to stop another Texas threat before it could even get going.

It's not just hitting, not just pitching. It's defense, and the Sooners brought everything with them to Austin to begin things.

The game featured two rain delays (82 minutes combined), including one following the top of the seventh inning.

Lowry was brilliant in shutting the Horns down, going the distance despite the two stoppages in play. She struck out four.

What's at stake in this series: Oklahoma is looking for its first series win in Austin since 2022 while Texas is looking to have back-to-back home series wins versus Oklahoma.
