In watching the tape of the OSU game, I noticed that at one point during the start of a time out when the team gathered at the sideline, Sherri said something to KK and KK responded in a pretty animated fashion. It is a wild guess what the exchange was about, but it seemed to go on for 15 or 20 seconds. It was after that KK did not play much.

My suspicion is that KK was defending herself because she was being mauled by the OSU players - and had actually gotten their inside players in a bit of foul trouble - maybe 3 fouls each. Unfortunately she did not get to take advantage of that since she was suddenly benched - and played only 16 minutes in this game. It is often mentioned that Sherri pulled KK last year for a game. She has also substituted heavily this year. So much so that we do not seem to have a group that has developed the chemistry to play as a unit very effectively. I wonder if Sherri has gone a bit overboard on that and KK felt she was being punished and criticized for something not entirely her fault. I personally think it is time for Sherri to direct that frustration toward the officials when it is deserved rather than at players who are being shoved, mugged, and knocked down.

But the back & forth did happen, and I wondered if any of you were aware of that interchange between Sherri and KK? What do you think it was about?

KK is and has always been an emotional and outgoing person so this wasn't a huge surprise to me. It doesn't look good, but sometimes it happens. I am sure there is nothing deeper to this than everyone being frustrated. If it continues to happen in multiple games, then there could be a serious problem. You can't be successful if the team isn't 100% bought in to the gameplan and the mission for the season.

Everyone likes Kay Kay, but we must be honest. As a senior, she still makes freshman mistakes and she still lacks the proper conditioning. Depending on the pace of the game, it's usual 4 or 5 minutes and then to the bench. Her mistakes increase as she tires.

Kay Kay has a very nice inside game. In games where the guards are heaving bricks, we really need her to be able to go 35 minutes, but she can't do much over 20.

But the real question here s why does a 3 guard team beat anyone when the guards shoot about 15-20%.

This team plays crazy ball. They pass it around for all but a couple of seconds on the shot clock. As time runs out, defenders step up the pressure. Ultimately we're likely to commit a turnover or take a poor shot. If I coached them, I'd encourage them to shoot within 10 seconds of crossing the center line.

Actually, Sherri has the six second rule. They prefer to shoot within six seconds of crossing midcourt.

In order for that to work, everyone needs to move around to create lanes for driving and places for open shots. We quit moving about five games ago. Our numbers are dropping like a rock.

I agree with lots of what you said. But allowing KK to play just 16 minutes (she was 2 of 3 at that point) is conceding and giving up. In the last 6 games she has played as follows:

1. A&M 23 minutes; Fouled out; Officials Brian Enterline, Jesse Dickerson, Tina Napier
2. Kansas 28 minutes (easy win lots of subs played); 2 fouls; Officials: Dee Kanter, Felicia Grinter, Michael Price
3. Baylor 31 minutes; Fouled out; Officials: Brian Enterline, Amy Bonner, Kevin Pelthel
4. TCU: 27 minutes; 2 fouls; Officials: Lisa Jones, Jesse Dickerson, Eric Brewton
5. K State 28 minutes; 4 fouls; Officials Metta Roberts, Roy Gulbeyan, Bill Larance
6. OSU 16 minutes; 3 fouls; Officials: Laura Morris, Jesse Dickerson, Felicia Grinter

She plays more than 20 consistently, and can play 30 anytime unless she fouls out. The OSU game had nothing to do with getting tired. I have put a couple of names in bold. We almost always lose when those two call the game. KK almost always has major foul trouble when Enterline or Grinter call the game (Kansas was so bad it was hard to effect it that much). I think he is one of those Chad was referring to when he seemed to agree (without verbalizing it) when asked if some officials called fouls on her because they expected fouls instead of actually seeing fouls.

Here is the point. We cannot win without close to 30 minutes from KK. Pull her over non-issues/frustration and we have lost. The guards have not played, shot, or passed well enough to overcome or replace KK's production. She will be hard to replace when she graduates.

If we are getting screwed as bad as you suggest, Sherri must be the most hated coach in the conference by the officiating crews.

I think you misunderstood, Norm.

The fact is that KK fouls out frequently when a certain couple of officials call the game. That is obviously not talking about all officials. I attempted to show that by showing fouls on KK and who was calling the games. The fact is that we have a hard time winning when Brian Enterline or Felicia Grinter calls the game. Do they have issues with coach Coale? I do not know. But if one of them is assigned to the game this Wednesday, it will not be surprising if we have trouble with fouling ratios. I am not responsible for the statistics. They are what they are. Not as bad though as it will be if Scott Yarborough calls the game in Austin. Again, I can't help the statistics. They are what they are. It is left to you or others to explain why it is consistently a problem.

In the link Syb left, Geno seems to think the issue is that Enterline & some others allow far too much physical play. Perhaps that is the issue. We try to play a cleaner game - well within the new rules interpretations. Some teams do not. The games should be called according to the rules - and the way the NCAA has instructed teams and officials to perform.

Home teams get the most free throws on a consistent basis. Why? I'll let others answer that, but it is simply a fact. We don't lose too many games. But we do consistently have problems with certain officials.

KayKay has always fouled a lot and everyone knows it.

I know it is tempting to just believe what you have always believed - especially as you get old.

But she has really controlled that last year and this year. Oh, not with that official in the preseason last year in the Bahamas when almost our entire team fouled out. And no, not in Austin last year with Yarborough fouling out 4 or 5 of our players. But the vast majority of the time she has controlled it.

Not sure why some folks have been blind to her improvement. Chad said it all in the interview that night - without any actual verbal statement.

But, yes if Enterline or Grinter call the game she will likely foul out - even if she never gets within 3 feet of an opponent.

If you take off the Crimson glasses the officiating looks better.

What color are your glasses - black and white striped?

Some people hold players and coaches to very high standards and they have the right to do so. Others hold officials to the same high standards and should have the right to do that without snarky comments from the board moderator.

it's not just OU fans who hold Enterline in low regard. I learned his name by reading posts on other boards. He's disliked by fans from just about every school in the Big XII.

Enterline makes mistakes just like any other human. That doesn't mean his officiating favors any particular team. Some fans make a habit of complaining about officials. They aren't perfect either regardless of what they think.

Neither are coaches and players.

And, some do exhibit bias. The types of calls that they make may tend to favor one team over another. Right now, for example, the NCAA has instructed officials to call the game closely to reduce contact. Given the recent play vs play during the non-conference season, has the tendency of the Big Twelve to exhibit relaxation of the NCAA rules been a positive or negative to OU?

Who was the baseball official who had called numerous OU games, none of which OU had won? That type of record is suspicious.

A basketball official in the 90's, Stanley Reynolds, was eventually banned from calling OU games. Don't know about baseball.

Some of her fouls are because the guards are getting beat and moving over for helpside.
