Soonersports.com: Introducing Trae Young

There were times during his recruitment that I wished OU would have moved on from Trae. It seemed like he and his dad were such primadonna headaches. Well i've done a 180 on Trae. What a great kid he seems to be. Of course I have no way of really knowing, but part of me thinks he always knew he would go to OU. He seems very loyal to his roots and proud of Norman, OU, and Oklahoma. I have grown to love his confidence as it doesn't come off as arrogant, and is what the team needs. Glad we got him!

Well said, Stikboy! I couldn't agree more.

The confidence (some may call it cockiness) he showed in that video is my favorite part. I have said all along that he will be one of the leaders on this team. If someone else doesn't step up, he may be the only one. But, one thing I know for sure, Trae Young is well qualified to be a leader. Fact is, he welcomes the challenge.

I sometimes felt the same way, but like you, am now very pleased he's a Sooner. It could serve as a reminder to all of us (well, most of us, anyway) going forward that whatever reports we hear on a particular recruit (in hoops and in other sports), unless we're real insiders (of which there are a couple on this board), we shouldn't assume we know the real story on any of these kids.

Just his quickness and IQ wii be a BIG help for all the players

. . . . . we shouldn't assume we know the real story on any of these kids.

Amen!

You know, there are many fine young men and women that play sports at universities outside the state of Oklahoma. If Trae had signed with some other university, he would still be the same person. He would still be a fine young man, one with confidence and without arrogance. Same young man. Same family. Same parents.

I am so glad he is a Sooner. He gives all indications that he will represent OU with distinction, both on and off the court.

Where do we get these impressions that someone is a prima donna? It seems to me that media people are in the business to make money; to sell newspapers and advertising on TV and radio. Their job is to compose some narrative or controversy or drama, and this generates “buzz” or interest. Just because some sports writer or talking-head attributes the traits of a prima donna to some parent or player does not make it true. I try to remember this: Consider the source. Sports writers have to write something, whether they know anything or not.

Trae’s parents raised a fine young man. That speaks well of the parents. That speaks well of the young man. It is going to be so much fun watching Trae play at the LNC.

while I agree with you generally trav ... we get much more than opinions from a sportswriter to make some of these guesses. We see hundreds of video clips, all kinds of posts and tweets, and then all the stuff from different writers. Then we make our horrid judgments.

True that, Cool. :)

Oftentimes, my opinions are based on other opinions, which are based on other opinions. On rare occasions, I might form an original opinion.
