Spangler Hurt?

My point in saying it is for our entertainment is that we fans should never become blasé about the fact that we benefit from the players' hard work, talent, blood and sweat. I was speaking not to Spangler's (or any other player's) motivation for playing the game but the overall nature of big-time athletics. It is entertainment, and as fans, we sometimes are overtaken by a sense of entitlement, feeling we're in a position to judge a player for a disappointing performance.

Spangler's given too much of himself for our university, its basketball program, his teammates and coaches, and the fans to insult him when he has an off night, whatever the reason for that subpar performance. And saying Ryan Spangler "just didn't show up" and that he needs to "check himself" is most assuredly insulting him.

I'm right there with you. There is no reason to bad mouth any player. We watch for our entertainment and they play for their own reasons.

Spangler's main problem is that he matches up horribly with Iowa State. He can't really guard anyone on their team, and McKay is too athletic inside for him to be effective in the post. We've got to figurre out some different lineups against them if we meet in the conference tournament or the NCAAs.

Playing WVU and at Hilton back to back, one day (travel) rest obviously took its toll on our team.

To me this completely ignores his performance earlier in the year. He had 12 rebounds and 20 points against ISU on January 2. He was the leading rebounder and third leading scorer in the game.

Interesting. I thought he did the best (albeit mediocre) job on Niang in Norman. But clearly LK preferred Buddy on him.

I talked to his dad before the game in Ames and he said Ryan was ready to go. We really need him to step it up and get a fire in his belly.
