I guess I'm not convinced I should jump on the negative bandwagon. Seems that a lot of you have lost your faith in Coach Capel. Don't say you are just calling it 'like it is' because 'what it is' is still your opinion and your opinion is a negative one. The truth is, and you can't really deny or disprove this, that a season CAN come along where everything goes wrong at the right time. A season can come along where nothing you do seems to work. The stars align themselves with the middle of the universe, the moon eclipses the sun, and it rains for 6 months straight ALL IN CONSECUTIVE EVENTS. When this freaky stuff happens not even the greatest coach of ALL TIME would be able to salvage a winning season. The thing I'd be critical w/Jeff about is his youth and experience that seemed to seep through the cracks as he became extremely frustrated. His calling out players started to wreak of excuses on his behalf which may have dumped more fuel on the fire. I remember some on here thinking it was a good idea... it was not. It became almost a weekly affair and regardless whether he was spot on or not it's hard to ignore the rather large elephant in the room. These were Jeff Capel's recruits acting this way. Even so coaches make mistakes and we'll see what comes of this Sooner team but I'm leaning towards a complete rebound next year.

I for one don't believe the season was a sign of things to come but more of a HUGE wakeup call for the Sooners that didn't think anything like this was possible. Well now they know what will happen if they don't listen to Capel or accept all the hard work they need to put in. There's a massive example that's been made and everything Coach Capel told them could happen HAS. They've been embarrassed and now the players are being told they can't get better, they can't be a competitive team, and that they might as well just break up and move on. We'll see what happens next year but IMO the stage has been set for these talented kids to do their thing. I expect we'll see a much better Jeff Capel led Sooner basketball team next year and from here on out. I still believe Capel will get us to where we've always wanted to be.

Great post and I've highlighted something I really think will be a huge factor in next year. They now realize they can't win on just talent alone, that its going to take hard work to compete!

:clap

Actually, some people need to go ahead and just step off the ledge.

I'll always love OU basketball. I have faith in Capel. I can't wait till he turns this thing around.

There is no more evidence that Capel can turn this mess around than there is that he can't. Jeff is young and I'm sure he learned a lot this year about managing some knuckleheads. What worries most of us is the knuckleheads, not Jeff's abilities. Hopefully the new blood/ high character guys that are on the way will give the team better chemistry.

It will be a long 7 months to see what kind of team we roll out on the floor come november.

I agree. I still think Capel's a good (and young) coach. He's around my age, and Lord knows I haven't figured out all there is to figure out by a long shot about my job. I think the experiences of this year will lead to helpful learning opportunities for everyone involved. Maybe the younger players will learn that discipline is needed as well as skill. Capel maybe learns something about evaluating mental toughness in developing players. This year was a kick in the sack (for him more than anyone, remember), and I've questioned some of his decisions, but I still think that by the time he's his dad's age he's going to be a HOF coach. Gotta go through crap like this sometimes to become that kind of coach.

Just as you've accused the negative folks of having no evidence, you've got no evidence to support your view either. Simply taking an opposing view doesn't make your view based on evidence.

I thought that was fairly obvious.

This just feels like the right thing to post:

This.

That being said, I think what is most disappointing to me is there was no maturation of this team during the season in regards to effort and attitude.
The last game was as worse as the first.

I did... right into a thorn bush... but in the process of pulling the thorns out of my butt I realized, ya know, compared to this, the season hasn't been that damn bad... :woot
