David Boren became OU's President on December 1, 1994.
Joe Castiglione became OU's Athletic Director in April of 1998.
Bob Stoops became OU's football coach on December 1, 1998.

Those three men are the high tide that float all boats. The Underwood fiasco in Stillwater got me thinking about the smooth waters we face as a University due to those three men. We are very, very lucky, because if you look around the conference there has been uncertainly all over the place.

Could our school and administration do more for basketball? Sure. But the harmonious relationship shared between the school and the AD is a site to behold as a fan. Where is the palace intrigue? Check out how long our coaches have been on the payroll as the top dog:

Football: 1998
Men's Hoops: 2011
Women's Hoops: 1996
Baseball: 2013 (perhaps the only mess of the last few years?)
Softball: 1994
Men's Golf: 2009
Women's Golf: 2009

It's really remarkable, and I feel it might be a feather in our cap in landing a secure spot once this conference blows up in the next few years. Long live the trinity.

Yep. I think people take Boren and Joe C. for granted. Heck, I think a lot of OU fans take Bob for granted.

Not to mention

Women's gymnastics: 2006
Men gymnastics: 2000

Good Stuff!!

You actually forgot the biggest mistake Joe C. has made in regards to a "bad" hire. And that's saying something when you throw in the PH mistake.

Mark Cody almost destroyed the OU wrestling program. So glad he's gone!

Good observation. You might even go back to George L. Cross and the athletic directors beginning in the '50s. Oklahoma has been lucky to the point of being blessed with good people.

I would agree. not many will care but the admin hire of Ryan Hybl has been really good for OU golf. my family has been close to the program since Andy Magee and Todd Hamilton, the NCAA runner up 88 team and national champs 89.

i hope Bob Stoops coaches as long as he wants at OU (mostly, based on past performance)....but i also hope Joe C. and David Boren are around to make that next choice. like someone else mentioned, a rookie AD at Texas....ouch. i never thought i'd say something good about DeLoss Dodds....so i think i'll stop).

even though the Jeff Capel hire turned out very sour.....it was the right way to be thinking. i liked the idea of the hire at the time.
