LK did something very clever last night.

When Spangler and Buford were in the game late, he used them, almost as decoys, on screens for Buddy - pulling Ibeh away from the rim and allowing Buddy the opportunity to penetrate - which resulted in several trips to the line and a couple of layups.

This success got Buddy rolling and, in my opinion, led to the eventual game winner.

This was a really smart idea and something I'd steal if I was a coach. Having Buford and Spangler on the floor makes OU a tough guard. Sort of like guarding Golden State when they go "small". Be interesting to see if they use this offense moving forward.

I noticed some of this as well. Especially when Ibeh was out when he came down awkward on his leg. We immediately started to attack the basket (tho sometimes unsuccessfully) and started to get better movement and looks. Then when he came back in, as you pointed out, we tried to clear up the lane more by bringing our bigs out. Like the move LK! :lon

Hard to tell. Buford was in probably because of Lattin's foul trouble. But then again Lattin may have been on the bench because they were upset with him for getting the T.

But more probably because Buford was playing well and he was helping Buddy to get free.

Good game but we are going to have to be better in Austin and Morgantown not to mention Saturday against Kansas.

Smart is a good coach and Texas will do well with him.

It pains me to speak so highly of something related to the Longhorns.... However, it's hard not to like what Smart is doing with his players down in Austin. This should make for some great RRR match ups down the road! Boomer!

Last night was reminiscent of the Hollis Price/TJ Ford Big Monday battles in the past. The future is bright too!

I was thinking the same thing - UT looked good. If they can get Ridley back for March, they could make a run in the Tournament.

Yeah. I sat behind their bench 10 or so rows up. His guys really feed of his energy. Once he gets his guys better suited to his style of play, Texas is going to be an even bigger problem.

Yes, Saturday will be key to us having a chance to win Big 12. KU is better than whorn. It appears the rest of Big 12 is learning how to successfully defend us and our inside game is pretty deficient now. Need to kick it into higher gear.

that's probably why he left lattin on the bench....buford is an offensive threat....more than "punishing him" for the T.

If lattin is out by the 3 pt line, who cares...but buford can hit the 3, so ibeh had to come out.

I was really confused with ut's subbing...I thought they would have kept ibeh in on the off side, bigger more a post threat and taken him out on the def end..a liability...oh well. Worked for us.

Regardless of Lattin's status (foul trouble, doghouse, or both), we had 5 players on the floor that could shoot the 3 and Texas had to respect that.

Lattin will be there on day, just practice and confidence

Lon made another good coaching move late in the game:
He isolated Buddy at the top of the key so that he could go either way. He ended up going right drew fouls.

BTW Buford came out to shoot about 50 min before tip and made about 8 out of the first 10 3s that he took.

Was the T obvious? the sooner sports broadcast was filled with a bunch of second guessing of calls and non calls

If i were the ref i wouldn't have T'd up either based on what I saw. Now if they each said one of the magic words that's another story, but all I saw was them get in each others face and talk a little. 9 times out of 10 both guys would have been separated and warned without the T.

Texas loses almost as much as OU next year. They lose Felix (26 minutes), Lammert (27 minutes), Ibeh (17 minutes), Holland (15 minutes) and when healthy Ridley (26 minutes - Ridley being out has obviously increased minutes to others).

I like two of the freshman but I am not convinced Texas it going to be all that great instantly.

what I didn't like, was they went to the monitor...from what I saw on TV. I'd be ok with a quick T is they said something...but to go over to the monitor. Since they looked, they should have noticed the ut kid, ibeh? actually came into Lattin...while he was on the floor. Spang tried heading him off before he stepped over him.

That's what they did in the 1st half and it wasn't working. Texas switched all ball screens and our guards tried to iso them at the top and never really got any good looks.

In the 2nd half after they switched they immediately passed the ball then went to the wing. After that they swung it back to them on the wing and got them going downhill, making UT's bigs have to move laterally.
