Summer workouts

Interesting that when asked who has stood out in the freshman class, both Madi Williams and Aspen Williston have said Jessi Murcer. They both raved about her.

Maybe she's better than anyone thinks (and that would be pretty good!)

We won't actually know what these recruits are like until we see them this Fall. With the point guards that we have: Shaina, Tatum, Taylor----I'm rather surprised that Murcer has emerged as a potential star. But, there is that word, aggression. Determination does overcome talent if the gap isn't too wide. It always helps if the floor general relishes being on the front lines.

What will help Jessi more than anything is she won't have to worry about teams playing junk defenses on her. The girl can flat shoot the ball, all she has to do is create just a little space, and she can fill it up. I'm with Syb, let's see what we have at the red/white clash. Looking forward to seeing all the newbies play.

In the past few years, my primary concern is that we have not had the mid-range or long-range scorers. We had Courtney inside. Had we had a Simone Augustus to provide an outside shot on a consistent basis, we would have had a title or two. Instead, we had a bunch of guards limited by ACL injuries. We almost made it when Whitney came up, until she went down. We needed a better outside.

I am encouraged by the presence of so many that may well provide that. Shaina and Ana indicated that they could explode, and Ana really wasn't the shooter that she had been in HS.. I understand Shaina has been working more on a mid-range shot to go with her drives.

If you add Madison, you get another person to attack the rim, creating problems for a guard or forward. Taylor is known as a great shooter. Tatum is known as a scorer. If Murcer can be an inside/outside force, we should have sufficient scoring power to overcome the tendency we have had for droughts. I like the idea of having multiple options that can score.

We had two years recently of Peyton, Maddie, and Vivi having to score because there was nobody else. Last year, it was Maddie, Vivi, and either Shaina or Ana. We had to have three, or we lost. We simply didn't get scoring from Penzo, EJ, Simpson, LaNesia, TT, or Ortiz on a regular basis. Everyone had some things they brought to the floor. But, our scorers just had to score, even when defended. There was nobody to take the pressure off or draw it away.

I get the feeling that our recruiting is bringing in people who can put the ball in the basket, the name of the game.

I agree with that.

I've never seen a program be so streaky for years like we have. I know we're going to be young and growing pains will surface, but I'm willing to say that by early in conference this team will be better than we've seen for the last five years at least.

I agree Ollie. I think we will be better shooters and Madison and Tatum will demand effort defensively. It will be interesting to see how the youngsters hold up during conference play. Even with a team so young, I think we will be better.
