Tech's talking to Tubby

Smith should stay soooooooooooo separated... from Tech :D

Depends on how many more years Tubby wants to coach. He's in his early 60s, I think somewhere around 61 or 62. If his goal is to coach another five years or so and then retire, Tech might not be a bad place to finish out his career.

The expectations at TTU aren't nearly as high as UK or Minnesota or a couple of his other stops. He's a better coach than Pat Knight and Chris Walker, and he won't embarrass the program like Billy G did. Heck, Tubby could run for the Mayor of Lubbock when he decides to get out of coaching.

Other than being out in the middle of nowhere, Tech isn't such a bad place. I think the biggest problem with athletics was the now retired athletic director Gerald Meyers.

I think Tubby is a good guy and hope he gets the job if he wants it.

Myers was a part of the problem at Tech, but the rest of the admin from the chancellor to the president and on down still has a lot of political issues that are not present at other institutions. Tech is the only athletic department that is similar to Auburn in how they are run. Decisions are made by 2 or 3 people and those people aren't held accountable to anyone.

Tubby could do well there, though, and at least make them contend for postseason play. If Tech hires Tubby, that just makes Scott Drew's job tougher because his program will suffer the most from Tech and TCU getting better, IMO.

There is nothing to argue about because you are right. But, Meyers was one of the two or three for a long time.

I don't know why the expectations would have been high at Minnesota...
It's Minnesota.

Prior to Tubby's arrival there, they had 5 official NCAA Tournament appearances in the history of their 110 year old program. They hadn't won a regular season conference title in 30 years, and have never once won a Big 10 tournament.

In his 6 years there, he took them to the tournament 3 times, and even got a win as an underdog this year.

For that, he was fired?

Yes, and he may have been the ring leader at one time. My brother-in-law is a Tech grad and he's complained about Myers for years.
