...to get a stinker like that out before it counts. Yikes. I know we scored 98, but for the most part that was a gross game to watch. Sloppy, no energy, forcing it, getting out-hustled and out-gutted and not covering anybody.

I think we're letting the fouls get into our heads too much. We have depth ... no reason Christian James or Odomes need to be soft. Buddy and Spangs need to be careful, but everyone else should be in attack mode.

Also, Cousins and Woodard are worrying me so far. Neither seems comfortable with this offensive setup.

Also, Christian James does not play like a freshman. He is a steady hand out there ... good all around player. I like him a lot and expect he'll be starting alongside McGusty and Woodard next year.

For the most part, I attribute our sloppy play to the number of substitutions that didn't allow our starters, or anyone else for that matter, to get into a consistent rhythm on offense.

I can't think of a reason why we didn't do a better job of defending the perimeter. Our defense made Devonse Reed look like a division I AA. He single handily scored 30 of MACU's points, knocking down 6 of 8 shots from three point range.

I found it odd how much CJ Cole played in these exhibitions

He actually earned some bonus time yesterday. My guess as to his increased time is that we may need him for certain games which big men are in foul trouble and Mangyany ends up redshirting.

All in all, it was indeed sloppy, but I think we'll see a much different team Tuesday night.

Agreed. While I was pleasantly surprised by the way C. J. played in last night's game, I don't expect him to be a regular part of our rotation against tougher competition, unless foul trouble forces LK to go deeper into his bench. By all accounts, C. J. is a hard worker in practice, so he deserves the minutes when the competition or a game situation opens the door for him to get more playing time.

I'm not surprised that we were a little sloppy. I watched the game this morning, but I was only somewhat attentive (as I was working). But the one aspect that bothered me was that we didn't play with the effort on the defensive end that we've become accustomed to seeing. I didn't see a lot of guys fighting through screens, hard closeouts, or actively finding a guy to put a body on. I will chalk it up to early season indifference at this point, but I don't want to see this type of effort (or lackof) very often.

That will probably be the most he plays all year unless we get a couple of front court people hurt. Manyang was in shorts last night so I expect him in a couple of weeks unless he has a setback.

I think Cole is probably a real good guy and Kruger is giving him minutes when it is easy to do so.

But Cole took advantage of his time last night.

I don't know what to think about him. He was a solid high school player.

He's on scholarship and I wouldn't be surprised to see him play a lot this year. Our bench is wide open. You have 1 guy with experience on our bench and the guys who work hard in practice will get a shot. He might be like having Tyler Neal on our team and he played a lot. Cole was a dynamic rebounder in high school so that could play a factor as well.

Cole will play as much in 2015 as he played in 2014, barring injuries.

In other words, not much.

I think you are writing off a scholarship player who is now in his 4th year as a sooner. This kid averaged 22ppg and 16rpg in high school. I don't write off guys who can average that many rebounds a game no matter what level of competition they are playing in. Buford is the same height as him so we'll see what happens.

I agree with WT. When we get into the season we will go 10 deep and Cole will be 11th or 12th depending on whether AK makes it back.

Cole is not quick enough for top 25 basketball and he is also somewhat of a tweener. However if the freshmen don't come through Cole could get some minutes but I like what I have seen of the newcomers.
