The Big 12 Coaches Postseason Awards are out

Pledger averaged more points per game and had a higher field goal and 3 point percentage than Keiton Page. Yet the latter gets 2nd team while the former is only an honorable mention.

I didn't see this thread before posting my own.

I hate Page, but he did average 18.8 points per game in Big 12 play to Pledger's 15.2. I still don't think he deserves 2nd team consideration, though.

Why?

Conference's 2nd leading scorer, 3rd in steals, shot more three's than anyone else and shot 40% from there, and he's not worthy of 2nd team?

At the very least Pledger should have made third team over Christopherson. Also, Kabongo making the All-Newcomer team over Osby is a bit of farce. Kabongo will be a great player. But his 3.2 TOpg, and 40% shooting shouldn't have him in consideration.

I don't know about Pledger over Christopherson, Christopherson had a heck of a year, in conference. Shot 49.4% from three, 3 assists a game. 14.2 a game in conference, Pledger was at 15.2.

Tough call, though.

Because I think there are better players on the 3rd team (and off the list entirely).

I don't care how many points Page scored. There have been players in the past with similar scoring outputs not make the 2nd team.

I would like to see an example of the 2nd leading scorer in the conference not making either the 1st or 2nd team.

Thomas Gardner

19.9 points per game (in conference play; 19.7 overall)
3rd team All-Big 12

Page is such a defensive liability. I think he is a solid player, but I am not sure there are many coaches that would rather have Page than Osby or Pledger. Page will get you points, but he takes a lot of shots and puts a ton of defensive pressure on your front court.

MU fans around here are peeing their pants over the COY award.

I'm not sure why. Self has been awesome with what he had this year, and Hoiberg finishing 3rd in the Big 12 was absolutely outstanding. If KU would have had their typical talent coming off the bench I would say Hoiberg should have won this outright. Tremendous job by the Mayor.

Self may not have his typical type of talent, but he still has (according to the coaches) two of the three best players in the Big 12, and they were the pre-season pick to win it all. Their starting five consisted of three 4-star players and two 5-star guys. Not exactly an underdog story.

I don't think any Mizzou fan would've had a problem with Hoiberg winning the award. Most would be ok with Self winning it. But to have two guys share the award and neither is Haith doesn't make sense.

Haith finished 2nd in the conference with a roster that went 8-8 last year (minus four players). Mizzou was picked 4th in the preseason Big 12 polls, and that was before losing Bowers for the season. He went 3-1 vs. Self/Hoiberg (Self: 2-2, Hoiberg: 1-3).

FWIW, Haith won the AP COY award today.

OU's overall record has more to do with the snub than anything. Win more games and this stuff takes care of itself.

It's interesting to note that seven of the 15 guys on the first three teams are seniors. And of the other eight guys, three could go pro — Robinson, Jones and J'Covan Brown. Robinson and Jones are pretty much locks to leave, which means nine of those 15 are gone. FWIW.

Really using head to head. OK Frank Martin is 2-0 against Haith. Bring him the award.
