Can anyone explain this "new" offense to me? They do line up with 4 out and 1 in, with shooters in the corners. Then they seem to essentially play pick and roll on the strong side while the 2 players on the weak side stand there and wait for a kick out. The player with the ball then runs off of the post screen and penetrates. We are told that they are told to drive, shoot, or pass the ball quickly (getting away I guess from the tendency of previous point guards to dribble around at the top of the key while waiting for something to happen). But it sure doesn't look like a motion offense when on every possession 3 of the 5 players are standing waiting for the ball. When the ball does kick out, the receiver then seeks to penetrate, shoot, or pass. This is repeated until a shot goes up or a turnover occurs. The players on the perimeter are rarely in position to secure an offensive rebound, so if the team is shooting a low percentage they are not likely to get many second-chance points. SC indicated that she wanted to "simplify" the offense so that the players don't get caught up in thinking but can simply react. But it sure seemed to me back in the early 2000s when we ran the motion offense consistently that the players were reacting to each other very effectively and everyone was moving. So, I don't understand it.
