RE: T.J. Taylor
Reminds me of the football board on OUI. When it comes to recruits, when we get them, they're going to be great. When we lose them, they're really not that good, we didn't need them anyway, and we have much better players than them already.
I for one don't share that sentiment. This team is bare bones and can't afford to lose anyone. We got walk-ons getting significant minutes in close games. However, if a player doesn't want to stay, for whatever reason, what can you do? I mean, it's not like we get worse, he hasn't played. He might have made us better someday, but that possibility now lies in the realm of the "what-ifs."
Also, I agree that the list of transfers isn't a major cause for alarm. We can't comment on the state of college basketball, with players flying around everywhere, transferring, dropping out and going to play professionally earlier than they should, and then get upset when it is reflected in our program. Should we be happy with it, no, but it's more a reflection on the overinflated ego of today's amateur basketball players than it is an indictment on anyone's coaching. A large majority of them want to be superstars, today, solely through their own raw talent and without coaching or discipline. If a player doesn't turn out to fit what the program needs out of them, I'd fault a coach who didn't make moves to part ways with them.
As for TJ, it seems to me like, first, he got injured and the staff underestimated it, second, things happened to make him feel like he was not appreciated, and third, some stuff we don't know about. I can't be too upset with anyone in that situation; it just sounds like it didn't turn out to be a good match for both parties.
