I'm not sure how many of you go the games, but I go to nearly all of them. Over the last few years, I've grown attached to the lead-in from the tubas right before tip-off. It seems the fans have embraced it as well, and anyone with tape of the big games toward the end of last season knows just how cool it sounds for 10-11,000 people to be clapping in unison right before tip-off.

(disclaimer: I can't remember the name of the song they take the beat from. It's one of those "I like to move it, move it" or something like that. I think it's from the 90s.)

Long story short, at today's game, the tuba lead-in was played over by some random song from some random DJ.

QUIT THUNDERING UP MY OU BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE!

I'm going to get to the bottom of this. I know the arrival of a DJ is inevitable, but I'm not going to let the lead-in from the tubas die quietly. I'm sending some emails......starting right.....nnnnnnnnow!!

Totally agree! The tubas playing before tip-off is my favorite part, it should never get played over.

Don't mind the DJ, but I wish we had more cool traditions.

Tubas are a good start, and not sitting down until we score is alright too.

I wish that we would do something cool like at the first TV timeout of the 2nd half, have everyone stand up and someone (with a mic) leads the crowd in singing the alma mater or something like that (Florida and Michigan State both do something like this, and it's pretty cool when the whole crowd gets involved).

Need more college traditions like that, and less DJ's and giveaways.

Didn't go today, but I love the Tuba thing before the opening tip. I do not like this development either.

love it. Gets me pumped.. We came from Wichita today and I was a little shocked there weren't more people there.

There's an easy solution to this. Keep the tuba for the tip-off, move the dubstep to the start of the second half, which currently doesn't have any sort of music lead-in. Hopefully the marketing department will figure that out at some point, as I enjoy the tuba lead-in as well. Really though, there's no reason for OU to mimic the Thunder experience, as OU basketball is never going to outdraw the Thunder. Need to differentiate.

First round of emails sent. We'll see how deep I can burrow down this wormhole. I will defend the honor of the Tuba lead-in if it's the last thing I do.

We've got to protect our phony-baloney traditions, gentlemen. Harrumph!

It's honestly the best tradition at the LNC, I think. The tifo thing the student section does now during the intro (at least when there's enough of them to hold it up) is pretty cool as well.

Oh, the student section confetti after the first basket is nice, too. Forgot that one at first.

Anybody notice the PA system sounding muffled? It was not clear sounding at all in my section.

This isn't the first track on Beatles For Sale. I have a reply:

Dear Misguided Padres Fan,

Thank you for your email, I always appreciate feedback from our fans. We use the beginning of the season to explore some different options to make sure we are running on all cylinders for our conference slate. One option everyone agreed to pilot was beginning the cadence with the “Sound of the Sooners” and allowing it to build into the DJ music. This option was not intended to take away from the tradition, but to enhance it. Athletics and our staff agree that the cadence is very effective and has become a tradition in the past couple of years. However, from your feedback it sounds like the desired impact hasn’t taken with the fans–and we will reevaluate.

Now it's time to introduce myself to the DJ Thursday evening and threaten him with harm if he plays Andy Gibb over the tubas.

Are you in an N/S section, or an E/W section? My tickets are in N1, but I usually move to LE6 in the 2nd half if there's empty seats there, and the PA system always comes in much clearer in those seats. I think they have it aimed at the E/W sections.

Good luck! We have your back! :D

This kind of stuff is inevitable. I got kind of annoyed with the "hype man" last year. This year's version is 10xs worse. But it's not going away. OU is competing with the Thunder for entertainment dollars, so I'm sure they feel like they have to come with as many bells and whistles as possible. I'm just going to learn to live with it.

Score one for the good guys! Tuba intro was all by itself last night with no grandstanding from the DJ and little involvement from the MC.

Everyone has a voice when you're on the right side of justice!

:facepalm hopefully it was a oversite

I don't think it was, they played a video instead....seemed previously scheduled and I was very disappointed.

Why not just show that video during one of the timeouts instead, and let us have our Tubas!

Three games in a row of no tubas. I guess it has gone the way of Top Daug and the Dodo.

For shame. I enjoyed it, and I'll always have the memories.

The Tuba lead-in always got me pumped. It's removal is the only stain on this season.
